Here's a question: Does any one of you hardcore Head-Fi'ers out there still have a working portable DAT? I'm just curious if anyone uses, or ever has used, a DAT as part of their portable rig.
I used to use DCC, DAT, and MD, but the last time I used a DAT machine was 2000. I tended to downsize after that and MD was the only one small enough (at that time) to allow me room in my shorts.
Great looking pics there dfkt & meme! I had the WM-2 and TCS300 but here is my last cassette player:
I took the pic, replaced the battery, plugged in phones, and hit Play and "Forbidden Fruit" PVD came up. I tested the phones (MDR-G72) with Fuze, and they are are like the bizzaro-PX100, with rolled off bass, forward mid, and very sibilant high, so with tapes they're uh, "hissy galore"
rawster, sorry to hear that and to bring back bad memories, but those types are thief baits. Unlike my baby stax that's actually looks older than dfkt's cassette player.
I rubbed the 5-way navi of the Clip+ with some acetone... looks much better now without icons.
Also found a much better franken-tip for the SM3: Shure Olive inner tube for safe fit, foam from a standard drug store ear protector, Phonak PFE tip with wider inner diameter. Now they fit and sound much better than with their stock tips, and they isolate well too.
