perhaps you need to look up the audiophile almanac again. the DAC (pico in this case) is the source. what he IS missing is a transport, but I guess his laptop isnt so photogenic

Nice ER-4!
I currently own the Pico amp/dac and Westone ES3X and thinking on buying a pair of etymotic with custom tips. Should I go for it?

It's my fav too, for the whole "opera rock" construction, for the message behind it, for the sound imersion, for those musical very high moments like when voice and saxo are purely merging ("The guner's dream" if I'm not wrong).

I like it. Not my favorite (Animals and Meddle for me), but it's got some very intense lyrics (The Fletcher Memorial Home). The first Japanese CD sounds awesome.
