Sellotape does the trick, just gently dab the sticky side onto the pads and it lifts the fluff etc off nicely, and it doesn't leave any reside either.

Actually, no. Just looked it up on Wikipedia and see it's a 1981 show. I was working my ass off at that point, years past cartoon watching--and that was well before cartoons became adult fare (I still don't watch them...just not an animation guy).

Re the X2s, I've been doing a slo-mo pad rolling experiment w/them, which will end tomorrow when I take off the aftermarket pads (Brainwavz round pleather--which I need to pad roll w/a different headphone), then put stock back on. It has been ~2 months since I heard them w/stock pads, so it will be interesting getting re-acquainted w/that sound I so appreciate. I'll check my stock pads for dirt/dust, which are unlikely, since none of my 4-5 headphones get significant head-time.

Lint roller works too.

If they get funky, I will put some alcohol on a microfiber cloth and gently wipe them down. Then after dry hit them with the lint roller to fluff up. Mmm, nothing like some clean and fresh velour pads...

Something very much on my mind for the X2s is the idea to replace the stock pads with Brainwavz round velours. I know from messing around with the Brainwavz round pleathers that those pads fit & feel very good indeed. The pleathers produced some unexpected sonic changes, but perhaps the velours would not (ie, swap same material for same material).

It's something I'm thinking of doing. Maybe it's childish of me, but having these little "audio missions" keeps me juiced up and interested in headphone audio, just as much as the good sonic results I'm getting from the headphones themselves.

On the subject of earpads I really didn't like brainwavz so I tried getting in touch with Philips.

Got some part numbers for spare earpads for the X2HR directly from Philips Nordic Support (well, Gibson), I was told to just go to whatever authorized retailer and have them order them. Bear in mind these are part numbers for Nordic, I am not sure if they would work in the US or anywhere else in the world.

Support very specifically told me to mention the model name for the product I want parts for being the X2HR. Maybe this is a new initiative to provide support for HR's but they fit original X2's perfectly anyway so...

which raises something I've been meaning to ask here: some have listened to the X2HR and found them sonically nearly identical to the original X2s--but with somewhat upgraded pads (comfort is improved, presumably). Have you had any chance to compare stock X2 pads vs stock X2HR? Anybody?

I approach modding the same way. Keeps me interested, and when I mod an existing pair it keeps me from getting the itch to buy MORE gear I don't need. It's also rewarding to get sonic improvements or correct flaws from DIY mods.

When my stock pads eventually wear out, I'll likely swap them for Brainwavz. Either that or figure out how to replace the pads the "right way". I figured out how to do it on the Meizu HD50, so it should be very similar for the X2.

There's no sonic difference. Hardly any comfort difference, maybe they get less sweaty with time but that's it.

Thanks! With these comments, you're saving me some money & wasted time...after all, I never for a moment felt the stock pads were truly uncomfortable. A little scratchy, but who cares? They sit in one spot around my ears and I forget about "fit" and just enjoy that X2 sound.

And by the way, finishing the thought above about pad rolling the X2s: nothing I heard on any amp w/the Brainwavz round pleathers replacing the stock pads, really bettered or surpassed the stock pads. The sonic effects were very interesting and kind of non-X2-like, particularly on the Audio GD SA-31SE amp, which made them sound very flat and as close to analytical as these headphones will ever get. But was any of that better than the unique, organic/relaxing sound profile of the stock headphone? Nope.
