After 3 years of loyal service, my balanced jack broke last month. Not too much of a problem, I used the single ended jack. Now that's dying as well. Bluetooth isn't strong on this device when used on the go, so I've settled for using the USB audio out into my Momentum Wireless, which is fine. The battery life is still really good (especially when battery saving is activated), so I think I'll send it off to Romi Audio in HK for repairs and a jack upgrade in a few months (unless someone can suggest a more convenient route) when my Youtube Music free trial ends. I don't really have the money to upgrade to an R6Pro, X7ii or DX200, although I'd consider it in another year or two. Also, All of my current headphones are under 40 ohms impedance so I don't need anything truly powerful.
I think the DP-X1 actually has better headphone out sound quality than most DAPs? Why? Well, I don't believe that HR audio is audibly superior (although the mastering of HR titles is often done more carefully, it's not inherent to the format), so I use Standard def FLAC and high bit rate (+256) AAC for my audio library. This enables me to reduce the lock range adjust jitter setting to the second narrowest without skipping, producing a tight, detailed sound with amazing separation even on 3.5mm output. I think other DAPs are preset with a wider lock range, which helps with high res audio playback but degrades fidelity.
Keep us in mind when you get the repairs completed. I would like to know how everything went and how long it took. Mine is coming up on 3 years but every thing is still good.
If I was on your situation I would get the battery replaced as well even if it's still ok for you. They have it opened and this would be the prime time to get it done.

experiencing the unresponsive x1a problem: hard reset (power + >>|) does nothing

battery was at like 20% when it froze while in use; after several seconds it turned off

saw in this thread that waiting for full battery drain fixes this

anyone know how long the draining process takes? been near 24 hours now

I would also remove your memory cards and see you can boot up.

I lost my DPX1 in the backseat of a Vietnam Airlines airplane between Hanoi and Bangkok yesterday. I simply forgot it and people from the company told me that cleaning people "did not find anything".
I am VERY sad it was stolen... I now realize how attached and addicted I was to it... ........

I have the serial number and can give it to the ones who are suspicious about a device sold from Thailand or Vietnam. The device is new excepted from its corners a very very little beautifully used.

O.

I am so sorry to hear you lost your player. Not just player, but SD cards with your music, this is heartbreaking.

My guess is that cleaning staff, or whoever found it have no idea what it is they "found", but looked expensive enough to pocket it, instead of reporting they discovered lost item on the seat.

The reason I think they don't know what this brick of Al is, it is clearly not a smartphone, and that's that. I lost my X1 on the beach in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. I was listening to it, sitting on a beach at night beer bar, took headphones off, and walked to hotel, only to discover that my carry pouch was empty, no X1. Only 15 minutes had past, so I ran back to beach, no one had found anything, it was night time, I looked and looked, didn't find it. Standing nearby was group of local working girls, asked them, no, we didn't see anything. I took $20 bill out wallet, waved it, asked again, and there it was, one of the girls had it.
Vietnam seems cursed for DP X1 owners, my Balanced output socket failed in Saigon 2 weeks ago, second time it has happened within a year, 3.5mm went silent long ago, I never bothered to repair it, since I only use Balanced out, more power for hungry headphones.
Sent my X1 to Hong Kong, Romi Audio, they replace the factory 2 5mm socket. Will know in about a week.

OP, I'm in Thailand, the only hi end web forum second hand gear I'm aware is

https://forum.munkonggadget.com

I doubt cleaning staff is aware of that web board. And other than people who visit this web site, no one here would know what Onkyo DP X1 is, or where to sell it.

Can't answer why X1 is better than DAPs costing double, namely ibasso DX200, and FiioX7 II. But it is, to my ears.
Audio is subjective, and people may prefer DX200, I like Onkyo X1 better. And I like X1 better than DAPs costing $3000.

Here are some photos of inner life of X1, my 3.5mm out failed ages ago, but when 2.5mm failed in June, 6 months ago, we took it apart.
Notice output sockets are held in place only by soldering points, 6 tiny soldering points, 1 comes loose from board, bye bye. Another failure can be 4 contacts inside the socket itself, socket may be not loose, but contact become "tired", and fail to touch headphone jack, and one channel is gone.

Your X1 lasted 3 years, I'm guessing you don't carry in pocket? Neither do I, instead carry it in pouch, to avoid headphone plug bending the sockets, still they fail. This is known issue.

This repair on photos restored the 2.5, notice on one of the pics my friend added epoxy type glue, to keep it from becoming loose from board. This repair was done in June, in Estonia, Europe.

2.5mm socket failed again couple of weeks ago, one channel is dead, and I'm travelling, out of options, I shipped it to Hong Kong, Romi Audio. He replaces both output sockets, repairing them is pointless, they will fail again and again.

Sorry, seems I manage to post photos twice. Went back, edit, chose Thumbnail option, they are still too large on my phone browser, I apologize.

Romi Audio offers mods to X1, upgrade the capacitors, see the large caps, 8 of them in amp section of board, he replaces those.
The other mod is bypass the output circuit of the ear protection.

I didn't opt for mods, just socket replacement, cost is 1000 HK$, plus shipping. Mods cost 1500 HK$, about $190 US.

HELLO All,

Long time lurker and thought I would share my experience recently.

I decided to purchase a Headamp GSX Mk2 and pair with my DP X1 that was gathering dust what a surprise very musical indeed, so went that bit extra and decided to 2.5 TRRS to fully balanced XLR and made a purchase of a https://www.boomerangsounds.co.uk/product.php?xProd=4139 .

I am pairing with Audeze LCD4 headphones and the duo lights them up I have high end Headphone rig with which I did compare but for the money what a stellar DAP. So Musical had my foot tapping in seconds.

And add the icing on the cake you can control the DP X1 remotely with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiby.music&hl=en_US.

So with amp and DP-X1 I am very happy, and the control app is the icing on the cake for me no need for a server....

Hi everyone.. I just recently dug out my onkyo x1 as well but found that the left right balance of my unit is off. Can't seem to find the setting for the left right channel balance anywhere in the settings, can anyone help? Thanks a bunch!
