Would rooting it help in extending battery life? Also, am I correct in assuming that this does NOT support sacd ISOs? DSF only?

Also, DSD is converted to PCM before coming out the 2.5mm jack correct? Even if a usb app [like Hiby Player] is used? How about if I feed something like a Fiio Q1m2 a signal through usb? Still DoP? I'm hoping there is a workaround to output native DSD via the balanced jack...

Sweet! How's this thing pair with BGVP DM6's?
I have my DP-X1 paired with the BGVP DM6 and the sound is amazing .. I have bunch of DSD files as well as FLACs and for the kind of music I listen to (Rock, Hip-Hop, Pop), it sounds really good. I have now switched to using a balanced 2.5mm cable with the DM6 and the sound is taken to another level. Definitely try the balanced option if you can.

The only thing that can come out of the 2.5mm TRRS or 3.5mm TRS jacks, is analog audio, that has been converted from digital by the two DAC chips.
.
You can use the stock Onkyo Music Player, or other apps, like UAPP, to output digital audio via the USB port.

So, theoretically, I could use the usb out to the Q1mk2 to get native DSD w/o PCM conversion? I use something similar with my phone [Hiby player out OTG usb cable into the Q1 & it outputs native DSD.] People who listen to DSD via the 2.5 jack, do you like the way it sounds? I think it would be DoP after converting to 24/192 PCM. I really like that native DSD sound and don't want to feel I made a bad choice getting this!

I am guessing this is being sent via DoP [converted to 24/192 PCM]? You say it sounds amazing, so that's good! Do you use the option to upsample everything to DSD? Saw a review mentioning that feature and it said it sounded great. I have heard DoP in the past and thought it sounded very good, but was still missing that warmer "something special" sound that native DSD had.

Is there any advantage of using the $8 UAPP over the included Onkyo Music Player? UAPP works with the TIDAL service better than the TIDAL app? [I thought the TIDAL mobile app couldn't do "Master" MQA level audio? UAPP can?] Looks like something I might have to buy, seeing as it could be a way to deliver native DSD via usb...

Yup! UAPP able to play masters mqa. Tidal app can't on mobile app, only payable on cpu desktop.

No .. I am not upsampling any of the DSD files ... just playing them as is on UAPP. It still sounds great :-) It is amazing what a cheap balanced 2.5mm MMCX cable from amazon did to the DM6.

UAPP is way more advanced than the Onkyo Music Player and it doesn't have any Tidal connectivity that I know of.

"UAPP works with the TIDAL service better than the TIDAL app?" Well, it now has Tidal MQA playback so, YES? :astonished:

UAPP requirements for decoding MQA

To be able to decode and play MQA, audio needs to be played in bit-perfect mode and a bit-perfect audio path needs to be present to the DAC. Please note that there are two bit-perfect options inside USB Audio Player PRO: one in the section 'Internal HiRes audio' and one in 'USB audio'. Please enable bit-perfect in the appropriate section. MQA decoding can either take place when using the 'Hires audio driver' for internal HiRes chips or when using a USB DAC. The DAC needs to be capable of playing at 88.2kHz and 96kHz. Furthermore, an in-app purchase is required to activate the MQA decoder.

Shortly after starting playback of an MQA track, the player will display information on what is needed to get MQA to decode if the above requirements are not met and the blue or green led will not light up, indicating the MQA is not being decoded.

I have been trying to read some of the older posts in this thread. Some caused me to expect poor battery life, so I was pleasantly surprised to get 17 hours from last night to today burning in a new pair of 300 ohm earbuds. Starting from a full charge I listened for a couple of hours before bed last night which took it to 90%.

I left it playing while I slept and when I got up it was at 40%. I continued to let it play through the day and finally after 17 hours it was down to 10%. I shut it down and plugged it in. Waiting to see how long it takes to get back to a full charge. So, 17 hours driving 300 ohm buds with high gain, single ended, about 128 volume. I am surprised by that volume setting as I am not a high volume listener at all.

Edited to add - I have been keeping it in airplane mode. I really only need this as a pure music player and I like the stock player.

Later when it is charged I will listen with my Nighthawks through the balanced output. I assume battery life will be less using it balanced.

My big worry is still about the headphone sockets. I am kind of frightened when pulling out the cable. I don't want to send it back because it is really nice but I will be very upset if the sockets break. I almost wish that I did not know about this.

I get 12-14 hours all the time even after all these years of ownership.
