Hi all, I got just got my set 2 days back, had been trying out the player before I make any comments.
I moved on to the DP X1 from a DX90J/Graham Slee Voyage stack, and I'm using Heir Audio 8A CIEMs. I also have a pair of UE SuperFi.5 EBs.
First off, I've been using this thing for quite intensively and trying out all types of formats, e.g. APE, MP3, FLAC, DSF, WAV.
I have yet to hang my player. I've tested most if not all scenarios as well, for example playback with DSP, upsampling enabled etc etc. Also, I just updated my player today, so will see if I can get my player to hang!
I'm going to get a balanced cable today or tomorrow, so I can't yet comment on the Balanced output, so my comments on SQ will solely be based on SE A.C.G mode.
I'm no audio guru, so I'll keep it simple. If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask specifics. I don't do any technical tests though!
I've tested Sony ZX2 because I had wanted to buy it just before the DP X1. I tested the ZX2 with no Sony enhancements on, and I immediately thought that the bass was a little too much for my liking. Maybe it is the synergy with my 8As, though.
With the DP X1 SE, first off, the bass is just nice, not too much, not too little. Just enough extension, and sounds very accurate.
The separation for instruments are phenomenal in my opinion though. Sound stage is quite wide as well. I really enjoy listening to guitar strings on this thing; it sounds beautiful!
I test with a wide genre of music, and I have yet to find a specific genre which doesn't sound pleasing to me. Of course, I will keep testing, add more comments in regards to the balanced output as well.
P.S. The build quality is stunning. Feels great and yet lightweight. The plastic/glass strip on the back is a pain though, it is such a finger print magnet. One thing to note, the micro sd slots sound very hollow when you insert a micro sd card. Not really a problem, just that I found it quite wierd. :/
