ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

It is weird. Nobody ever talked about player being unstable. Thanks for letting us know.

Found the root cause : upsampling function. When I turn it off, the player is flawless, I can skip as many tracks as well want without the player acting up. But if I turn it on, skipping tracks sometimes causes the player to crash and restart.

Is it possible to use the DP X1 as USB DAC? If not, do you think it will get the capability through firmware update in the future?

This question was answered a few pages back - http://www.head-fi.org/t/780642/onkyo-dp-x1-dual-sabre-dacs-balanced-sabre-btl-amp-mqa-dsd-256-android-5/2280#post_12180917
I would not count on the capability being implemented, as there have been no mention by Onkyo/Pioneer of such a thing being in the works.
When in doubt, assume the worst.

And a firmware upgrade would not be sufficient, it would require a driver as well.

I agree, the odds of this ever happening are slim to nothing. That is to me the one reason I may actually switch to getting an X7. Not just the stand alone DAC, but in general I am beginning to agree with those who feel that larger companies really do very little to improve the product after release where in contrast companies like FiiO bend over backwards and constantly tweak things. Sometimes being smaller and more nimble is an advantage. Hopefully I'm wrong and the DP-X1 is actually improved via firmware in the coming months. Only time will tell.

Howdy All!

I have an Onkyo DP-X1 on the way from Japan!

I own several headphones including Sennheiser HD700 / HD800.

I would like to use the headphones with the 2.5 balanced output on the Onkyo.

What cables to I need to buy? I see the balanced cables have a different ending connector and requires yet an additional plug to convert it to the 2.5 balanced output jack on the DP-X1!

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!!

Best,

Get any aftermarket cable and have it terminated to 2.5 . Don't even try to convert 3.5 to 2.5 , it doesn't work that way

Android OTA updates are a bit of a lottery system. If you're lucky, you get it. If not, you have to wait.

You can only get the update otherwise if someone has a URL then you flash it via recovery.

Lucky ! Just got it OTA :)

Let's see if this fixes the crashing nonsense.

Hope it works out for you! I'm lucky not to experience the crashes you're experiencing. What type of music files do you have? Mine are all FLAC and a few DSF files.

Did you install any apps in your device? The apps I installed are Carbon (Twitter app), Pixiv and 3 music players.

You could, but that would degrade sound quality a bit. Then the regular TRRS to TRS adapter AK style was going for 60-70 a piece. I can see things more specific would cost even more. Then yeah, best to buy another cable just like you said .

Just curious, how would that degrade sound quality?

And there's no need to spend 60-70 on a TRRS to TRS adapter.
The cheapest I've seen so far is $20+, right here - http://www.null-audio.com/collections/iem-headphone-cable/products/null-audio-2-5mm-balanced-to-3-5mm-se-converter-for-astell-kern-players

Why would you use this converter on DP-X1? I own this one to use my balanced cable on my SE DAP.

DP-X1 has both output. So, use balanced cable on balanced output and single ended cable on SE output.

Balanced is obvously best than SE on DX-P1 so why downgrade your balanced headphone to SE with this converter?
