Any ideas, going single ended only, if one should go for the Pioneer or the Onkyo DAP ? Thanks

if you are NEVER going to use balanced and NEVER going to get balanced equipment, then go Pioneer (or even another DAP), there's really no point in getting the Onkyo if you are NEVER going to touch the balance output because you paid for dual DACs/Amp and is NEVER going to be using more than one as the SE output isn't wired to take advantage of the dual DACs/Amps.

Yes, and in fact getting Onkyo would probably just plant a seed in your mind to later get balance equipment to use it to its full potential.  So the cost won't be the Onkyo player alone. ;)

My DP X1 just arrived!

Anybody knows how to peel the label on the protection sheet?
It seems glued to the sheet itself.

Impression after a few hours:
Headphones used: Fitear TG334 (Fitear cable 006 single ended), Audeze LCD-X (stock cable, single ended)
Settings: ACG, EQ off, single ended (I'll do impressions with balanced settings later)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UI Design (stock music app):
Looks good, very 2015ish.

UI Functionality:
Needs some minor work. Editing playlist needs to be easier.

Launcher:
Works quite well, but lacks functionality. I might consider switching to Google Now or Nova Prime.

Sound Quality:
The bass has pretty satisfying impact and slam. It hits quite low, but not as low as Hugo. Still pretty damn good.
The midrange is the highlight of this DAP. It has SWEET vocal. The diabetes kind of sweet. String instruments also sound great.
It also has pretty good clarity and details, but when compared side by side with a Hugo, the Hugo wins by a clear margin. I know I shouldn't compare a $700 DAP with a $2500 DAC, but I don't have other DAPs with me at the moment.

Streaming:
Apple Music works perfectly (as pictured below). I don't have Spotify Premium anymore so I didn't test it.

After the SW update, I find that when playing .dsf albums, occasionally a track would not complete, stutters, and moves to the next track in that album. I tend to listen to complete albums. This never happens with FLAC albums and certainly not before the update.
