Thanks, I may check into that in the future but for now I'm just trying to check into why the media volume is sort of determining gain/loudness of the PHA-3..A few notes:

It is connected through OTG micro to micro..

The volume knob on the Onkyo does not operate (as it shouldn't) when running with the PHA-3...Only the media volume plays a part in the PHA-3 volume loudness/gain. If the Onkyo media volume is all the way up and PHA-3 is all the way low, no sound comes out, which is good I guess as I know the Onkyo is not fully controlling the volume..So depending on where I set the media volume, that will determine how loud the volume will on the PHA-3, strange I know...

DP-X1 (without PHA-3) upsamples all flac 44khz to 48khz as shown on the Onkyo screen and specs..Operating with the PHA-3, the Onkyo screen shows at 44khz, which makes sense as PHA-3 does play 44khz..

All in all, I'm just trying to confirm if I'm indeed bypassing the Onkyo's amp/dac and operating the PHA-3's amp/dac..Would love to get some thoughts/feedback..Thanks in advance!!

It can do that controlling volume of Mojo / Hugo too. I was the first to discover back in 2016. My understanding is there is communication between player and dac, it can send volume up/down instructions to dac and dac will take its instructions.

Actually it is the digital volume of the dac you are controlling. The volume dial is digital. There is an option in Music which gives you control of digital volume.

Thanks for the feedback..I'm not not understanding however, digital volume to what DAC, the PHA-3s..?

The only option on the music app is to disable the Onkyo's ability to use the volum, which in case the Onkyos volume is disabled..but it does not disable Androids Media Volume on the androids settings..

I think to most dac the Music app is capable to controlling the volume directly. So it is quite convenient.

For those think Music is too thin sound for vocal, suggest to upgrade to v1.71 . It has improved on vocal with more thickness.

For classical, you may not like to upgrade to this version.

Can someone help upload the latest v1.71 Music? Many thanks!
Go to the Google play store and find onkyo music application. Then update it. Very simple.

Hey guys, I'm sure it's been compared before, but I couldn't find a comparison using the search function. Could someone give me a quick comparison between DP-X1A and AK70? Thank you!

Hi Everyone, So I looked all over the web-inets the see whether my X1 firmware is up to date, and I can't find anything. Did Onkyo drop support for the DP-X1? Before I call their 800# I thought I'd ask the experts here first. If you have a link to share I'd really appreciate it.

There was at least one update, for the DP-X1B last Summer, and another one, after the DP-X1A was released earlier this year.

My rooted DP-X1B Device Information shows:
Processor info: Qualcomm APQ8074PRO-AB
Android version: 5.1.1
Kernel version: 3.4.0 android-build@DAP #1 Fri Nov 4 01:44:25 CST 2016
Build number: LMY47V
SW version: 0.1.37.8_20161104.013642

I saw those updates DB9, but I thought they were meant for the newer X1 DAP's. I'll dig a little deeper and see if they'll work for my 1st generation X1. Thanks for the response.
