Going from Normal to Narrow gives sharper image for me, but ... on the second step from Normal it starts sound interruptions - so called "clipping". Software or hardware problems - not sure.
Another bad thing on X1. "Narrow" useless, as the EQ on native player - not working if DSP turned off. Strange, that DSP so "dissipate" sound.
My conclusion: native Onkyo player another fail. Good, that we can use third party ones.

Best - very pe
With digital filters, upscaling and other settings, as you set your dp x1 for the best sound quality?

Best - very personal thing.
I like warm - tubes sound signature with well articulated all frequencies, detailed image - my settings - Sharp-one step to Wide.

Added - I use VLC player and some U shape EQ on high and low frequencies.

I've been following this thread now for a month or more...(began following it due to several suggestions of this DAP when I inquired about a great DAP that would also stream web-based music feeds)...

I really want to like this unit enough to purchase it, however, I keep reading about all the "bugs" with this DAP...from loose connections, to noise generation, to software glitches to...well...(we all get it...)...

So, I am wondering if ANYONE out there has a reasonably good idea regarding when Onkyo will manage to clean up the physical, electrical/digital, software, etc. issues that still appear to plague the DP-X1...?...I realize that this is Onkyo's first foray into the DAP market, and that Onkyo is a VERY big corporation, and therefor not terribly nimble and as such probably cannot start and stop production runs and so forth to "fix" those pesky little issues on a "whim", however, I would purchase one of these units very quickly once I learned from trusted sources that Onkyo had indeed done so...a DP-X1.2, or DP-X1.3 perhaps...  :-)  ...

Anyone out there with a crystal ball with a lens attached...?...lol...

P.S.  I wouldn't have inquired if I didn't think that the DP-X1 did not have so much potential, however, I REALLY want a "finished" product at roughly $700.00 US...

Peace/Namaste

When? I think - never - passed too much time without any significant upgrades. Onkyo too big company to hear. If sale figures going well - no need to invest more. My opinion - wait. Next year will be booming of new improved things.

Another attitude is start to enjoy what is out there in the CURRENT market.  Time is more valuable than anything in this world.

Just got this used Whiplash Hybrid v3 (4 Silver+ 4 copper thread)cable with a bargain price (1/3 of the original price)

Man oh man! I never thought my Heir 10.0's soundstage can be even bigger and more 3D

The density of sound is hugely improved (because of the 8 thread?)

X-1 has no issue at all to drive it well (using normal balanced mode in high gain)

I was a little bit worried that the X-1 cannot drive a 8 thread cable well and I was wrong

You guys should try 8 thread balanced cable on our beloved X-1

Totally worth it!

My dream set!

I returned my Onkyo DP-X1 yesterday because of its defects. 1. Too much noise when any sort of wireless radio is on (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), 2. Touchscreen malfunctioning (keep registering a single tap when dragging), 3. Started noticing its 3.5mm jack moving when I plug in and out the headphones, 4. Didn't have enough power to drive my portable headphones (Audeze Sine). It's on its way back to Japan. Let the search for new DAP begin again (not thrilled)...
