To add on, the Onkyo DPA-PUX1 is not available yet and will only be available in mid-Jan (according to Kaneda, he estimates it to be ~20 Jan)
Also, I believe someone has contacted Kaneda on the Van Nuys case a few pages back (refer to post #2540), he said that the waiting time would be about a month for this case.
Do take note if you opt for these add-ons, your DP-X1 order will be delayed until these add-ons become available (unless you pay extra to have separate shipping)
That was me!
Here's an excerpt of my email with Kaneda-san:
Between myself and Kaneda:
"Q. Van Nuys VD-280-00 ...
A. By past experience, VAN Nuys products may need one month to be shipped.
If you want together shipping of DP-X1 and VAN Nuys case ( it may need one month), please send US$60 to our paypal account, info[at]pricejapan.com
If you want separate shipping If you want together shipping of DP-X1 and VAN Nuys case, please send US$94 to our paypal account, info[at]pricejapan.com"
I too bought my Onkyo DP-X1 with screen protector and leather case together on PriceJapan.com, but I used FedEx shipping. Contacting Kaneda-san on whether this has affected my shipping/delivery, and if I can get it sooner via EMS I'll ask him to amend (and partial refund) my order...or I could get the Van Nuys case but it seems too much excess...hmm
I didn't get around to replying to other poster's but glad others have
In my opinion, if you have solely DSD files, or relish/listen to DSD/DXD, then of course native conversion will be a priority.
HOWEVER, DSD to PCM is NOT bad if implemented well, and we are talking about a DAP under £/$1K here.
The vast majority of my music is in Redbook 16 bit/44.1 kHz CD quality FLAC/ALAC/Apple Lossless rips or downloads. I do have some high resolution 24 bit files in 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz and 192 kHz (no 176.4 kHz files). I also have extremely little DSD/DXD files, mainly test tracks and some albums from Blue Coast Records.
Just because I don't have DSD records doesn't mean that I won't be using the Onkyo DP-X1 to it's full potential. I will, with music I enjoy and available (mainly Redbook), knowing I have a well implemented sources instrument ^^
I think the balanced cables has been well explained by previous Head-Fi'ers (thanks @Dopaminer!); try Double Helix Cables, Moon Audio, ALO, WyWires, Nordost, etc.
