the concept is quite simple.  you want 0.5 TB or 1 TB of space, you use mSATA.

I am planning on doing an msata version now and am thinking of using a samsung drive. I read that the 840 evo works but has anyone tried the newer 850 evo series? The 500gb version costs less on one but the 1tb version costs less on the other version, at least on amazon anyway.

Still waiting for all the pieces to get here. If you only use 128GB do you have to use a special version of Rockbox to use with the Tarkan adapters? I'm not sure if I will do Rockbox but I guess the benefit is changing the themes so thats always fun.

If you're just using a CF or SD card to get to your 128gb then no, you don't need the special version. The RB installer that you can dl from the RB site works fine with the gen 5/5.5 ipods and the CF or SD drives. It's when you get into the SSDs or mSATAs that you need more. I loved the UI of RB on the ipod ; mine was only a 30gb 5.5 (so there were only 32mb of RAM) with the Tarkan adapter and a 64gb CF card and there was no lag whatsoever. If I recall the theme I liked best was Cabbie + or something like that; the difference from Cabbie was that it displayed the bitrate of the file you were playing.

Nice looking cases, but I'd be scared of the magnet clasp affecting the hard drive. Or if it's an SSD, the circuit board/power current. I have currently built an IPod classic 256gb SDXC (PNY) 
i also ordered a 2000mah battery, i have read somewhere on this forum that you cant do it and some say you can, is there anyone that has got a 265ggb SDXC setup with a 2000mah battery?
If there is no way i'll just order a 256gb thin back and be done with the project and move on to the next..

The CF-to-SD adapter is too thick to fit the big battery in there.

Does anyone have beyondwind's rockbox for 7th gen? I've installed emCore with a 7th gen iPod + 1TB Samsung 840 EVO. It's been "stuck" on the formatting screen. I've left it for four hours and it's doing nothing.

Thank you! However, is the emCore build the same? Or is that also patched? I'm now trying a different build (r859) and it's remained static for about 10mins on the "Formatting" splash screen.
I am going to leave it overnight just to validate it's not impatience on my part.

Got the crappy stuff from iDemigod and through it all together yay! Plastic classic faceplate and recycled mid frame with crap all over it but I guess it will work. Thought I sanded the right place to make the wheel not stick out but I was wrong. Might end up putting in a case so maybe it doesn't matter.
