Got 1500 mha battery for iPod mini from trusted seller of eBay.
What is the cheepest 256 GB CF? Looking forward to see of they work in mini.
That will be awesome, mini sounds better than clip+ I'm my opinion.

Cheapest one is the Wellcore 256gb CF card that Dminor is using in his iPod video and I ordered this week, I paid $367.50 including Alibaba's escrow fees.

Just rockboxed my iPod video 5.5 today and I can definitely see why upgrading to an SSD is a priority.  Can't even get smooth playback using it.  Even the OF (original firmware) on the iPod is alot faster than RB.  Anyone else encounter this?

Yup, that was the exact expirence I had.  Thats why I stick with the stock apple firmware.  I had smooth playback, when it was playing, but it was soooo slow to seek a song or load a song or anything.

Without a doubt, I'm alone on this limb. but has anyone tried, or has any idea how, to connect an iPod Classic to a full-sized SSD ( Crucial 960GB)? It doesn't matter if the case won't close; I just want the iPod software to recognize it and play the files on it. Maybe one of these would work?

Don't get too greedy. The mSATA has already had issues with battery performance and track skipping as reported by cmarti. I personally tested one 256GB mSATA and noted the overheat issue. I can only see more troubles with this type of SSD's if you push up more gb's.

CF or SDXC card may have a good chance for 512GB, and I would like to test it if Wellcore make one sample for me to try in the future. :)

Yeah, we could see their address in ShenZhen, China right here

Dormitory-style (potential sweatshop like Foxconn etc.) as usual and that's why I'm still thinking about whether I should vote with my dollars or otherwise.

So far they're only selling via Alibaba / AliExpress instead of paying those pesky eBay fees

You can pay a premium for a brand name card such as Lexar or Sandisk. But if $492 is too much to swallow, then you may have to wait for another 5 yrs or more to get a brand name 256GB CF.

I am just thankful Wellcore make these cards which are reasonably affordable to me, even tho I could spend $1000 or $10,000 for a 256GB CF if my life depends on it. :)

I wanted a 240GB ipod two yrs ago after using rockbox. Almost bought a 240GB HDD before I came to realize how CF improves battery performance and other things. Then I need the spared internal space for bypass mod caps. Now I finally have a beauty, the DMod, which has everything I need including rockbox. It rocks.

BTW, the card hasn't caused a single hiccup so far. Power efficiency is just as good as my other CF's if not any better.

Did anyone from UK order it from them the CF 256 gb? Did you had to pay extra fees? Whats the speed of the card, and my big question is will it work in the mini?

I actually batch removed all my embedded album art on the device and used a utility to convert them to 240px bitmaps.  Works great now!  My ridiculously sized cover images were slowing it down.

a)No but tempted

b)N/A

C)Cmarti above says he's ordered and expects to recieve it in about a fortnight.  He's going to try it in the mini first.  I imagine that anyone ordering the above card is more interested in the ipod video than the mini.

cmarti,
Were your issues with the full-sized SSD track skipping power related? I plan to use this setup in a car, so power won't be an issue. I have the latest (7th?) iPod Classic.

BTW I'm new to this; what's a CF and SDXC? Rockbox with caps?

I am really puzzled or even shocked  by users who prefer iTunes over the rockbox. But that's understandable. :)

Yes the large file sizes of the images will significantly slow down rockbox reading. I normally keep all my cover images around 30 kbs, no more than 100 kbs. I use Windows 7 search to locate then delete all irrelevant files batch copied to the drive.

The Wellcore CF is actually a high-speed card, unfortunately it makes no difference to ipod usage as the write speed is limited by the board. I got 12 mb/s in writing from this card in Apple disk mode.
