Just came here to say that my Ipod mod did n't last long ... less than few days. After then, I bought an Agptek H1, amazing sound & built. But could n't control the sound after few months . The DAP keept
rebooting while charging and it was heavy as screw (175 gr) So send it back, and replace it with Fiio x1 II mainly because it looks like a bit like an Ipod and because I was nostalgic with the experience of my Ipod nano 1st gen. Still don't know why I bought the rose gold, but it looks gorgeous and feel very premium in hands. But their touch wheel isn't bad, but it's definetly not an apple wheel. Had to get used to it to change track, to boot, to control the volume using the dedicated button while with the ipod you can do all that by just using the wheel.

I don't know why, but I am nostalgic and I want to buy again an Ipod 5.5gen, since they can be found for such a low price and try the mod again, but last time I heard my Ipod bought from flea market.
The sound was very low and laid back compared to my S4 ? I use only low impedence earphones like Monks+ or Fidelio L2. Does every Ipod 5 sounds like this or you guys use amps with your unit ?

The iPod classic has high output impedance (around 5 Ohms) So low impedance (especially BA) iems/cans may not be a good choice. Get something with at least 32ohms or higher. My Audio Technica ATH-MSR7 and the Vsonic iems sounds good on ipods compared to other DAPs.

Hey all, I have a iPod 5 video and was wondering from all your experience what would be a good amp and headphones to get the best out of it?

Also are there any mods I can make to get it to play flac files? I have tried loads of other daps and they are all buggy and lack the useability of an iPod.

Whoa, nice. Is this Rockbox running on this iPod? If yes, what theme is this?

I am planning to mod my iPod classic with the iFlash dual adapter and use only Rockbox. Will this combination work reliably?

Yes. That's what I'm using right now. A 7.5G iPod with two PNY 512GB cards using Rockbox.

The idea for a 2TB iPod was actually suggested on this forum over a year ago:

All the parts do fit as long as you use a thick backplate and stock 850mah (thick) battery. The trick is to stack the four cards on top of each other in two rows and then bunch up all the ribbon to the side. I still ended up kinda ruining the top edge of the faceplate though before I could get the iPod to close properly:

Yes, it's Rockbox. Just follow the installation process here:

https://files.freemyipod.org/~user890104/bootloader-ipodclassic.html

Then install the latest themes and fonts with the latest Rockbox build.

I used the Googley Classic Clippy theme with 20 sized NotoSans-Bold font.

After much research, and soul searching I decided on the Sony NW-WM1Z. From all reports, as I will not have it in my hands until later today, Sony did an excellent job with the DAP in general and UI and the battery life seems excellent. Folks on the Sony forum swear by it.
I'm keeping my Ipods as a backup just in case.

I was a big Sony fan before getting an ipod classic largely with a view to modding it (with the 240gb hard drive at the time). Sony players always seemed very solidly built, with pretty good UI (barring a few small annoyances), and very good sound quality and great battery life. Never cared much for ipods, till the possibility of carrying all my music around at once became too tempting. Then ipods became the only option, and I got over my distaste for all things Apple!

For a while I thought the click-wheel was just a crap design, but only later discovered that was because my first ipod had a faulty one that didn't allow fast-scrolling! I thought it was _supposed_ to be like that (exasperatingly slow)

I used four 512gb PNY cards, a Tarkan quad adapter, and four Sintech SD to microSD adapters.

I tried that and could not make it work. The iPod would not recognize the cards through the SD to micro SD adapters. Apparently the Samsung T3 portatble SSD houses a 2TB msata chip and I thought that's what you used. Does anybody know if that 2TB msata chip would work in the iPod?

Hmm, maybe Sintech added 512gb card support to the firmware on their latest adapters? I don't know why it works on mine. Admittedly I've only filled 85.8gb of the maximum 1849gb capacity so a problem could pop up later. If there's a weak link in my setup it would definitely be the cheap Chinese adapters and the fragility of the ribbons.

Thanks for the information and congratulations to your impressive iPod. The Googley Classic themes look nice. I should try them.

Thanks for the confirmation. My iPod Video modded with a Super Talent SSD isn't performing as I expected, so I will go for this mod.

you are kidding right?

Sorry if my questions sounds to you as if I am kidding, I surely didn't mean to.
