You may like a single sd card adaptor. If you have a 30gb iPod, your limit will be 128gb. If you have an 80gb, then you'll be safe at 256gb, or 512gb. Sounds like a single adaptor with a 128gb card will work perfectly for you, based on your comments. You'll find that things are generally faster. I recommend a PNY 128gb SD card. They seem to have good synergy in this scenario.

  Hi guys,

One simple question. I have an iPod 5.5th gen and I think the hard drive is about to deliver its soul to the creator. It stops while playing and takes a lot of time to load files.
So, I will go for the iFlash option. I just don´t know what option to choose. 4xMicroSD, 2xSD, 1xSD or mSata. I want reliability and speed when I connect it to my macbook.

Can anyone give-me some inputs?
If I go for the card options, what card suit the iPod the best?
If I go for the mSata is it faster?

I don't need more that 120gb. I have 80 now and it is more than enough.

The main problem with msata is that it is unreliable with heat issues (more the larger size to be fair).  You could go for a single card adapter and up to 256 depending on library size, and wallet size.  Or if you would like more expansion in the future you could get the 4xmicrosd one and add as and when.

I have the 80gb version. I might go for the SD card, maybe double. Does it show as two driver on the rock boxed iPod?

Pretty much spot on about the rockbox driver. I myself didn't figure it out until someone else posted in this thread awhile back.  Of course before that discovery I'd sent back the 256 sdxc card and now the prices are silly again.

Oof, unfortunate. On the bright side, black friday and cyber monday are around the corner, you may even save a bit compared to what you paid before.

It shows up as a single cumulative drive regardless if you get the single double or quad. When it comes to transfer speed be aware that the ipod video uses USB 2.0, so you're going to be ultimately limited to that speed cap. Here's the iflash benchmarking article about adapter speed though: https://www.iflash.xyz/runtime-shootout-2016-quad-dual-solo-msata-vs-original-hard-drive/

Holy crap, I have been racking my brains and googling for a good few days trying to figure out why my music was skipping all over the place at random intervals (regardless of file type and size) and then just happened to stumble over your comment randomly today. Is it the rb usb driver that's messing things up? I'm assuming that by booting to OF and transferring things there makes use of apple's driver which is superior? I'm noticing that transfers also don't seem to hang like they did with the rb driver.

In any case thanks for providing a solution on here, literally just made an account to say thanks.
I had that track skipping problem right after I modded my iPod classic with Tarkan's adapter, 256g PNY SD on original fw. It happened even if it's put in the dock. When connecting it to the Sony pha1 amp(LO), playback would just stop intermittently, sometimes in between a few songs, playback just stopped! I have to switch off and on the Sony amp then it played again, very annoying!
Last night when I tried to play the iPod without the amp, playback stopped halfway and I manually skipped to the next track but it would not play!
I tried to reset it by holding the menu and centre button, the Red X came up after the apple logo, no matter what I did, it's the same and I gave up!
This morning at 4am I woke up and I decided to crack open the iPod(oh gosh, I hate to do this!) only found out the SD card has loosened out from the adaptor(I'm not sure if I did not insert it properly the last time).
This time I made sure the SD card was inserted properly with a "click" sound and making sure it would be able to reboot normally before I closed the cover!
I listen for a few songs with the iPod connected to the Sony amp, playback stopped again, switching the amp off and on triggered the playback to start again!
I have not tried it with the dock to test if the skipping issue remains...
A rather frustrating experience!

Skipping problem persists even iPod put on dock!

Have you tried removing your music and re-transferring it over to the ipod again after you fully inserted the sd card? It sounds like the sd card wasn't fully seated into the adapter which may have corrupted the files when you transferred them the first time. It may even go as far back as restoring your ipod when you first installed the adapter (the restore process may have corrupted data present as well). I would wipe the card and go for a fresh iTunes restore to make sure everything is working correctly.

I restored the iPod with iTunes, still the same, either the PNY SD card or the Tarkan adaptor got problem!
To be specific, when it was playing of 10 tracks, after the track 4, it started skipping, till the last track and it stopped. When I tried to play track 5, it had no problem to play till it finished!

Have you a)tried another card in the Tarkan adapter and b)tried taking the sd card out, reformatting it in your pc, putting it back in and restoring the ipod from scratch?  If after that lot then I would imagine it might be a duff adapter.  You could also try firing Tarkan an email and see if he has any suggestions.

Edit to add I'm assuming you bought the pny card from a reputable site like amazone and not a cheap fake from ebay or the like?

The PNY SD card was bought from Amazon.
Looks like there's no other options except with what you suggest; take out the SD card and format it with pc(thinking about cracking open the iPod again, oh no...!).
Before doing that, will definitely give Tarkan a mail to see what he has to say.
Thanks!

It's very likely a faulty adapter. My tracks stopped skipping when I swapped it for a new one.
It must be either the adaptor or the card(which I think unlikely, since the tracks skip at random, while playback the skipped track, it's no problem at all!).
I talked to Tarkan's support, they asked me to check the write/read speed of the card...I read their comments page, there are a number of users facing the same problem.

Plenty of folks here have had fine experiences with PNY cards but I have never had a positive experience with PNY flash memory...
I was hoping with the adaptor and the SD card would give the iPod a new life which I keep them solely as a transport to my system, with this kind of "learning curve", I have no confidence I can carry on to troubeshoot some more on these variables...
As my modded dx90 would be able to serve all my portable needs.
