I have the exact same set-up you mention above, it works perfectly. The 5.5g 80GB iPod works great with the 240GB Hdd and Rockbox.

Which hdd do you have? Model Number would be usefull.

iFlash works, all other CF -> ZIF Adapters should work but not all will. Best to buy ones tested with iPod.

Just got the 128GB CF card to work! Took a bit of playing around with but it works!

Sure...

In it is a Tarkan iFlash adapter and I bought and installed a KomputerBay 128GB UMDA 90ms CF card.

I originally formatted it normally but only came up with a 30GB card. After doing some research I found that I should download the HP USB Formatting Tool. With this I was able to format the card to the full 128GB. I then put it back into the iPod 5.5 and it took the restore immediately!

Then I loaded 2500 songs on it, ejected it from the PC and done!

Word to the wise...don't just unplug it after it sync's your music...make SURE to eject it..otherwise it will freeze up.

The new iTunes sucks.

LOL

Steve - Thanks for the info and this is very useful to the forum members who are looking for the CF card option. Have you tried to install/run rockbox?

Now I am guessing the cost of your 128GB combo (the CF card and the adapter) will be close to the cost of this 120 GB SSD.

Well...the iPod alone was $80 for the 80GB model. I don't count that into the mix because that's the base of this whole equation.

Breaking it down:

Tarkan Card: $15

128GB KomputerBay Card: $165

So the total for this little experiment is $180...about the same although with a little less weight and questionably longer battery life (which I don't really believe).

For the same $165 I could have gotten a 256GB SSD card...but which would work with the 5.5? All of the higher end ones are a lot more money. I'll be putting my second one of these for sale soon though.
