They are more like in properly amped ER-4S league, only they do better unamped and have much bigger soundstage and fuller sound with more bass impact to boot. More on the fun than Etys analytical side. Etys are more accurate though. I can easily switch back and forth between two without feeling any sound degradation, just different presentation.

Are you listening to better then Mp3's? If you have a huge mp3 collection the better your amps and headphones get, you will not get better music playback. Mp3's can only sound so good.

Then you need lossless and or the cd's or vinyl lp's.

Now a lot of high bitrate mp3's sound great on my better quality headphones but not all.

Get a Beyer HeadBand along with the headband bend mod.

Without the Beyer, the ES7 was as comfortable as wearing briefs 2 sizes too small when you got cargo like a 16 wheeler...with the Beyer, there's no sore spots on top and is very comfy.

How can any of you stand the comfort level of the ES7 without the Beyer HeadBand is beyond me!!!

Another "mod": I love those shiny, round front surfaces, but there with continued use, they can get scratched - especially the ES7 with the mirror surfaces. Best solution: buy a sheet of Best Skins Every, trace, then cut two circles. Once installed, they look like the real thing.

I've had them on for about a half a year so far. No visible wear.

If used portably, cables can end up snarled and hard to manage. Cable YoYo is one of the better solutions, reducing the size of the cable to where I can use it the ES7 with a laptop.

Another non-destructive ES7 mod, but a little more involved.

You've probably seen those cheap plastic cable ties; well, they have a new use. Coil a tie around the inside diameter of your ES7; cut off the end, and drop it inside. Do the same with several more ties, like this:




When you're done, you may find that your ES7 rests on your ears much more easily, and there's an impression of added head space. Now, it's easy to enjoy the ES7 - even for the length of a movie.

Interesting idea. Replacing the stock ES7 pads with ATH-SJ5 pads (which I only did because I had a set of out-of-use SJ5s on hand) does much the same thing. Just an FYI.

After the Head-Fi crash, the links and pics in that thread of mine was messed up... Just like all the other pre-head-fi-crash threads. I posted that thread just hours before the crash... If it were not for the crash, I think a lot of people would have found my post useful.

Anyway, what I did way was use this thingy that's used to pad refrigerator door handles, stuff some cloth underneath it, and it makes the ES7 really really comfy.

I also cut up some socks (new socks! not dirty old ones!

) the lenght of the es7 pads circumference, then rolled them up and put them under the pads. It increased comfort, added a little sound stage and reduce the bass bloat just a little. Nice.

BTW, where to get the Beyer headband?

There was one issue: it was difficult to wear the ES7 for prolonged periods of time (one hour plus) without the plastic upper edges digging into my ear.

I discovered later that wearing the ES7 slightly back or front on my head (as I do on my K701) can actually causes additional pressure. Ever since, I've worn them right on top - and the pleather is unusually comfortable, and there's minimal pressure. Don't be lazy while wearing you ES7.
