Hello everyone
biggrin.gif

Well I finally bit the bullet, went to the Headphone shop in Perth and got a pair of the sexy mirror finished cupped Audio Technica ATH-ES7’s. My initial impressions are fantastic and they do exactly what I was after. They are small, portable, have reasonable isolation, are able to be worn around my neck and most importantly don’t leak any noise!

At the store I compared them to the Audio Technica AD900s and came away feeling like I had bought its little fashion conscious brother

I am really looking forward to these cans being fully burnt in

So far I have performed a slight mod which involved bending the wires at the cups to make them fit better

Ill try get some pictures to show you what I mean.

I just thought I would make this thread so people could find out more about these headphones and ask owners what they think about them.
Stay tuned for a full review and my further impressions

There was a thread comparing the HD280 to the ES7 some time back, a lot of info there, see if you can find it, then I can dig out the info I posted there for use in this thread. I'm trying to find it, but no luck yet. The head-fi outage messed things up big time...

Anyway, glad you like it right out of the box, I wasn't impressed with mine at first but after some burn in, WOW!

BTW, I don't think Skylab(review link u posted) likes the ES7 very much...

My initial impressions of it was something like this(taken from that HD280 vs ES7 thread):

Quote:

Just to let you know they require quite alot of burn in. Been using mine for 2++ months and now the mids are really starting to show. Been using it like 4~5 hours a day, about 4~5 times a week since I got it.

Gotta warn you though, initially it might sound "yucks" to you. Kinda like, uh ok, so what's the big deal? When I first put them on I was like... "So, I paid more than a $100 for this? Riiiiiightttt...."

My initial thoughts was not that it was NOT worth the money, rather it was more along the lines of was it a bang for the buck? Get what I mean? I was under the impression there was nothing special about it. It was just another normal headphone to me.

There was loads of bass at first, but within a week or so, the bass really tightens up and kicks you in the head. When it finally kicked in, I was like "WHOA! What !!" Nice.

The mids come after weeks and weeks of ussage like I said above.

I hope you enjoy your new toy.

Read that thread for more details of my experience with the ES7. Lots of info in that thread.

ES7 FTW!

I owned this headphone for around 4 months. Sometimes I still wish I had them. They sounded so open for a closed can and had a nice soundstage. I ended up selling them for my HD25s because ultimately I thought the ES7's midrange was too thin. For some songs though, they sounded perfect.

great headphones!!!

looking now backwards, from the moment I got mine, and was discussing in that thread already posted here (ES7 vs HD280 Pro??) I feel I wanted to go back and feel the rush again of opening that beatifull box, and put those shiny great HP yn my hears again for the first time!

I use them now every day for about 6hours a day, when I'm at work.

They are also my nº1 HP for long train travel (twice a week) and my mates for iPhone iPod

I guess i love them on the outside!

Just my cheap workhorse for the motorway and the office. The ES7 sounds much better, but its bang-for-the-buck ratio is considerably below the small redneck K81. Not as bad as the nutty-priced HD25 though...
