Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

I don't particularly find the N4 lacking in the bass region for a fairly neutral and balanced iem. Definitely has better body and harder impact than leaner iems like er4s and b2.
Also, I have no issues with the fit - I think I have enough space left  in my ear for a 10-driver universal iem.
(btw in the pic the N4 is sticking a bit more from my ear because I'm using it with tri-flanges)

Also, I was just messing with some tips and the small meelec S6 tri-flanges give me a pretty good deep fit and seal although I'm still undecided on the sound with them. Tip rolling is quite a tedious job for me and so it will probably be days or weeks before I finally settle on the tips I like the most sound and fit-wise

I'd guess the noble 6 iem. I say that as the 6 will give u the bass for noisy areas and good highs necessary to comprehend speech. (highs are important to differentiate syllables such as the "sh" and th "ch" there isn't much of a difference between ship and chip)

The 6 isn't a bass monster, but it has a pinch more of the lacking bass that people talk about in regard to the 4 and when the song has the "drop" the 6 will provide the bass impact, that being said the bass is fast and doesn't muddy up the music

um thats pretty much my review of the 6.

Dunno about the ZX1, but, in theory, a DAP with USB-OTG would be able to use something like this (or Micro USB equivalent):

Yup, you need a device with USB OTG feature. DX5 has it, DX90 will have it too. FiiO X5 will also have it. Apart from these ones, plenty of Android phones have it so maybe ZX1 can do somethings with a FW update? Not sure Sony would care it though, they never offered expandable storage in their daps.

the 120gb on the ZX1 won't mean a awful lot in hi-res files... a bit of the occaision swapping of tunes via the pc isn't much of a problem.

when you going to post some in-depth impressions on you combo with the N4's?

So is there something out there to expand the Cowon J3, I have my 32gb mini disk at max already?

As one J3 user to another - do you use your J3 with Multi-BA IEMs? (I know you don't like the feel of customs).

Personally, I find the J3 utterly inadequate for driving anything multi-BA, even though I am fond of this DAP in many other ways.

Sure I do

Well, I suppose it depends on the impedance curve of your Multi-BA design, but the J3 is pants with UM Miracles (rather low impedance), not much better with SE-5 (which is much higher impedance), and not great with MG6 Pros, either, to be honest.

I've never tried amping the J3, but that seems a bit out of its league and also seems to defy the point of such a slim and tiny DAP.

Still, I'm glad you enjoy your J3. In spite of my irritation with it's headphone output stage, I am very fond of the DAP for it's size, weight, battery life, convenient integrated speaker, usability, etc. Not high-end, but a great little consumer device, overall, which has served me well.

Cowon J3, that is just the way I roll, it may be old, it may not cost a fortune, but it works for me, consumer goods and all.

I have had it for about 2 years, bought it in front of my wife, at that time my girl friend. She liked it as well, so I bought her one as well. I am a practical person, and the day I find one better than it, I may buy it....   it really just depends if I can afford to or not.

But one of the cool things about the Cowon, it doesn't reqiure a tube of super glue as an accerssory.
