Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Jun 28, 2016 at 8:48 AM Post #20,806 of 36,079
So after 18 months I finally dropped my k10s and the outer shell got a small crack in it. They still sound great, however the cable has never been a snug fit and when I took them out they slipped out of the 2 pin connector and hit concrete face down.

DO Noble do reshells of there own products? Also my RHS ear has always cut out if I move my jaw to the left. I think this is due to the build finishing in the side of my ear. I never returned them because It only happened if I was eating or wiggling my jaw.

Were they Universal or Custom K10s?. And did you remove and replace the cables before. The cables that come from the Noble office are very well seated and tough to remove, but every time you remove the cable from the 2-pin connector, the fix is looser.

Custom/wizard, the have always been loose, particularly the right one. I ordered an aftermarket cable which was about to arrive any day now. Since the old connector was very poor and often made poor contacts when inserted. Again, it was annoying, but not bad enough for me to send it back.

Try sending Noble an email regarding repairs. Other Head-Fi members have sent theirs back for repairs. I have no idea what the cost or turnaround time would be, though.

You can tighten the pins by squashing them slightly with a pair of pliers. :D

Yeh I tried bending them slightly, it didn't really stop them slipping out.

My cable has been a problem for a long time, the wire ear loop broke in the first few months.

my pins were a little close together and already slightly curved, I just straightened them slightly. About me cracking them. Brannan has looked after me very well as usual!

Hi all

So because I suck at sticking to a budget (what's that??) I find myself here considering a set of Dulce's, first the universal fit then considering customs. Then got to thinking if I'm going to the effort to get CIEM's why not just get K10's and not have to worry about further upgrading. My first question is how does the sound compare between these two? From what I've read here so far the Dulce seems to have a different sound signature from anything else?I mainly listen to a lot of EDM and vocal tracks and currently been listening with stax L500s, any comparisons to these?

I would be pairing the IEMs with a Chord Mojo when around home and was looking at getting a FiiO X3 2nd gen to act as transport for that, and as a standalone player when out and about. Is this likely to do an adequate job with K10's or even the Dulce or would I be better off getting something a little better?

Having never really looked into IEMs too much before now how different is the sound between custom and the universal fit? Is it mainly just a comfort factor or does the better fit/seal allow for slightly better sound as well? Definitely loving the look of Wizards customs though, even got my girlfriend saying she wants a pair.

Thanks for any help

Maxi

Edit... Just saw post above, I may have picked a perfect time. If I order during sale, how long do I have to get impressions to you guys as I've never had any done before? Or once the order is placed just whenever I can within reason of course.

@FullCircIe would you mind explaining why you prefer ba drivers over DD? I normally prefer DD, but there are a couple of ba driver IEMS I really love as well... One being a certain 8 driver Wizard creation.

Many IEM manufactures implement BA (balanced armature) drivers similar to the ones found in your products.  What have you found to be the advantages of this type of driver? Do you have any plans for a dynamic driver?

John: I like BA drivers mainly because that is what I was exposed to as an audiology student, and even before that. What a lot of folks don’t know about the “Wizard” is that I come from a family of Audiologists. My father also has a Doctorate in Speech and Hearing Sciences, so I was around hearing aids since the days of diapers. I spent a lot of time in hearing aid labs growing up, so I use what I am most familiar with. Beyond that, the laws of physics state that it takes more energy to set an object with a larger mass into motion, it also requires more time/energy to stop a large mass object. (Train versus a car) Keeping this logic into perspective, BAs has a smaller mass than a dynamic driver, so what we find is BAs respond faster, “attack and release” would be the audiology term. Some people feel that faster response results in superior sound quality; I happen to feel the same way. That being said, Dynamic Drivers are much cheaper than Balanced Armature drivers, so from a profits perspective dynamic drivers are a superior driver.

Bas take up less floor space, fast response times
That being said, there are some dd that offer an impressive sq for their size

We dont openly discuss plans.

Wait times for ciems usually go up during promotional offerings (logical)
Build times are normally 6 to 8 weeks for ciems and more than likely the time will be extended, by how much is yet to be determined.

I think its pretty much accepted, ciems offer a stronger bass response due to their issolation/fit, im not sure if that means a better sound quality, as that is subjective

I use universals myself, lifestyle choice
