Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

My ear canals are too narrow for my prestige and I need to downgrade :frowning2:

How do you mean? A refit?

I agree! As much as I love using CIEMs, there are times when they can be a little cumbersome - I hate taking them out to answer calls, for example. In this regard, a universal IEM is a whole lot easier, and more convenient to use.

Something that may help. To remove CIEMs quickly. Put your thumb under the bottom of the CIEM and lift. Should pop right out.

Yep, the thumb lift is a good trick also for equalizing the pressure when you're in a plane. You don't need to take them out, just lift enough to break the seal and that will relieve any pressure and related discomfort. Cheers

My ear canals are very narrow so when the impressions were completed they were also very narrow. Too narrow to use wood for apparently as I was told a prestige pair wasn't possible using my impressions but that a normal set with a wizard design and wooden faceplates would still be possible.

Likely I think the concern was that the wood would be too thin and susceptible to cracking but acrylic would be more durable.

I'd just never heard of this happening before so I thought I would mention it here for anybody considering a prestige pair.

I'm still looking forward to a wizard design with wooden faceplates though :)

I've heard about a few barriers to entry with CIEMs and can completely understand the caution against making a prestige pair with narrow ear canals. That said, I went with the SLA option for a quicker turn around. It's been a month now since I dropped my impressions off at the dealer...........

Anyone with the BTS help me out here?

I have it paired with my phone but if I put my phone in my pocket or hold it arms length the signal starts to break up and get choppy. Totally fine if I keep the BTS next to my phone, but that kind of defeats the purpose! Have I got a dud?

Mixed results depending on the source. Some sources allow for longer distances, reportedly the AK has a very short distance.

BS. Why do manufacturer's mentioned in their manuals and reviewers mention they they burn in the product "X" amount of hours before listening?

"Manufacturer's" is an all inclusive statement.  You will not find a statement regarding required "burn in time" for Noble products.

I suspect there is a shipping issue here, but PM me and fill me in on the situation.

Thanks

There are a multitude of reasons why the shape of the ear impression can cause issues for a Prestige, beyond the wall strength.  A Prestige must be hand hallowed out by a Dremmel, and if the canal shape will not allow for the drill bits to be maneuvered into the canal, a Prestige can not be built.

It is a bummer that you are not a candidate for a Prestige, and can not join the exclusive few that have one.  I don't even think I could have one as well, as my ear canals have a sharp bend in them.  I never attempted for a pair, I just use universal products.

Based on communications it was a sizing issue. :frowning2: for both of us.

Agreed. Someone should do a double blind experiment. I feel like it's mostly your brain getting used to the sound. It happens to me all the time. I listen through some crappy earphones from Walgreens and they sound amazing. Then when I try another pair of earphones they sound amazing. It's mostly your ears just getting used to the sound.

Anyways my K10 arrives next week. Hopefully it'll be "amazing". :^)

Here I cut and paste from a Review of the Sony NZ2 DAP and my Sim Audio headphone amplifier amp manual.

So I can back up my opinion by comments from multi million and billion dollar electronic companies. You got a guy here taking an opposing view who says Walgreen headphones "Sound Amazing".

The Pros and Cons Of New Toys
It sounded good. Really good! When you turn on the Sony NW-ZX2 you have the usual Android OS stuff to sync to your Google account and then there are two screens about the fancy parts and how they need about 100 hours to settle in. Wow, Sony, which is a major mainstream manufacturer of consumer electronics and not just some audiophile guy making gear on his kitchen table or garage, is admitting it takes time for an electronic component to 'burn-in'. For the record, yes electronics need time to settle in. Capacitors, speaker drivers, power supplies, etc all need a bit of time for the parts to stabilize.

From Sim Moon Manual:

Introduction
Nēo 430HA Headphone Amplifier

The performance of your 430HA will continue to improve during the first 300 hours of listening. This is the result of a “break-in” period required for the numerous high quality electronic parts used throughout this headphone amplifier.

The only opinion is yours. They are obviously making the statements based on their own knowledge and experience. There would be no reason for some manufacturers and reviewers to add this to documentation. It would serve no purpose.

Anyway, it is pointless to continue going off tangent any longer on this thread. You only have to believe what you want and I only have to believe what I want to.
