Bought a pair of (slightly used) EX700s for $140 off ebay. Can't wait.

These wouldn't come in a geniune Sony box, and you probably can't register fake pairs with Sony.

Are there any news on these headphones? I can't seem to find any reviews anywhere. Neither do I seem able to find any who've purchased these and are willing to go into detail with the quality.

I'm considering these for my no. 1 birthday present because I've always liked the Sony range (super snug fit in my ears) and because what I've read makes me think I need to go further up the ladder than the EX85s (I currently have the EX71SL and they're okay but I'd like to try something a leap better)

If anyone out there have any info, links etc, I'd love to hear about it

EX700s are actually $200 street price here in the US. The sound is comparable to the SE530s. The EX700s totally trounce on the Klipsch line along with SA6s and the sibilance is truly not as bad as folks have made it to be. Price and quality, at $200, there's only one other pair comparable, the Atrio m5s but the m5s are noticeably darker sounding. At the end of the day, you just have to decide between the darker sound of the m5 or the brighter sound of the EX700s. The sibilance is a good trade off compared to SA6's anemic bass and lack of a true soundstage. So, make what you will.

Hey Dookiex,

thanks a bundle for the digging, it's highly appreciated. But the thing is that the cheapest I can get the EX700s at here in .dk is $350+ and this is a bit more than I want to spend. Future Sonics and Sleek Audio are a no-go, I'd have to import them from overseas in which case tax and custom charges alone would amount to $80-100. And let's not even mention Shure's SE530 ($600).

This is why I am very interested in any news about the EX500s. If they were at $200, I'd most likely go for them if I could find a decent review but I haven't had much luck. So I figured I'd ask here, hoping that amongst this lovely bunch of audiophiles there might be someone who'd actually purchased them by now

Wow, so the EX700s are a better deal in the US? That's pretty ironic. It's exactly $229.99 the last time I checked for the US. That's how much I paid for mines. No point in paying $300 for the Japanese version since they are exactly the same phones except that the Japanese version is a two piece cable system.

Is it just me, or do the EX500s appear to be open?

Thoughts on this?

They should be real deal. After all, the street market of EX500 is only about 7000 yen in Japan and japaness headphones are quite popular in Asia so it's not surprising that they sell genuine EX500 too.

I saw a few impressions on Chinese forums. It seems many who upgraded from EX90 isn't very happy about the SQ of EX500. They don't think it is a real upgrade. Maybe you should hold on for a while till someone here give an impression first.

After reading that, I think I'll stick with my 2 pairs (one is a backup) of (cling-wrap modded) EX90SL's I got on eBay last year from "buyfromjapan", an extremely reputable eBay dealer (100% positive feedback) based entirely in Japan.
