No codec, DAC or ADC achieves 24 bits resolution and precision, let alone 32 bits. Everything above 16 ~ 20 bits are marketing bits. What is lost in the translation is that the codecs will handle word sizes of 24 or 32 bits, which can be convenient for data transfers and programmers, but have precision far less than the word size handled. So many are getting hung up on bit depths, sample rates etc. to have lost sight of the meaningful aspects of DAC implementation. This is the danger of publishing specs where numbers are compared without context or understanding. A DAC with 24 bit resolution but only 16 ~ 18 bit precision is not likely to sound as transparent as a DAC with 20 bit resolution AND 20 bit precision. I think the Schiit designers are chasing the latter and I for one am looking forward to hearing this implementation approach.
