I've kind of been in and out of this thread, but I wanted to chime in and say the X1 + LD1+ is an amazing combination.  For the most part I have been using the X1 with a Fiio E17 at my office, but I brought them home this weekend to give them a go with some of my bigger amps.  The LD1+ is the first one I've tried and I was blown away.  Sounds huge!

For X1 You should get a tube with rich "boosted" mids, little smoothed highs and tight bass & kick. But this all is my subjective opinion of course. But still, Mike @ headfonia review is also on similar opinion about X1 amp matching:
Another comparison that I can think of is actually the Shure SRH1440/1840 headphones. When I reviewed them, these open-back headphones from Shure were almost the perfect upgrades to the HD650 if not for their weak bass impact. Now that the X1 is here, it would be even harder for me to go back to the Shures. The 1840 is still more refined, and the mids and highs are smoother, but I find that a good tube amp can help the X1 in those departments.

The key, is to find an amp with a smooth top end and a full midrange. This headphone has a good speed and attack by default, so I won’t be needing a solid state. What it needs, however is a little smoother treble and a little boost in the mids body. The ALO Pan Am is the best pairing I’ve heard with the X1 especially with the smooth Siemens tube upgrade. The Bottlehead Crack, somehow, quite decent but not quite the knock out that I find it to be with the 650. Portaphile’s 627 with its smooth sounding mids and relaxed treble is a very nice match.

Though Aune T1 is not tube amp, it affects sound with tube buffer similar way and I totally agree with his opinion.

With proper tube amp or tube buffered DAC (with good tube) - yeah X1 sounds huge and bass & kick is tighter, mids boosted littlebit and smooth but clear&sparkly highs too. Amazing combination! And of course... better low-impedance cable than stock one is recommended to achieve best outcome.

I've emailed to ask what the dimensions are.

And yes, the X2 is coming. http://www.head-fi.org/t/723025/philips-fidelio-x2

EDIT: It measures 200 x 190 x 60mm. Way too small.

Having tried the M-100, I prefer these, but they are open back obviously, so more for home use only.

They sound good unamped, straight out of my macbook, and make a great all rounder for music, video games, and movies.

Extremely comfortable too.

Would a fiio e17 power these cans well? I have been looking for some cans for while I am at work and these are on my radar along with the M100.

I thought it did until I tried the X1 with the LD1+. I think it also has to do with volume. At low volumes the E17 sounds dull with the x1. If you're in an environment where you can listen at 80db or more then you should be fine.

E17 is powerful enough, but with no less than the volume at 40 (0db gain). Less than that and the dynamics on the X1 starts to sound dull, held-back and lifeless. Even at the optimal (IMO) volume of 45 on the E17, the X1 still sounds a little too uncontrolled. EQing the bass to -2 does help to tighten the flabby mid-bass a little bit, but doesn't really fix things.

I generally don't think the E17 is a good match with the X1, despite how popular it is. It's by no means bad, just that it isn't ideal.

Western Electric 408.

Thanks. Will source out a pair and see how it goes.

I own the Fidelio X1 and also the V-Moda M100.

I also own a dragonfly v2 and i happly run DFX Audio Enhancer on my windows.

I love electronic music.

It s really hard to suggest which 1 to buy between the two..

The M100 sounds better.. no doubts about that, but they are also impossible to wear for more then 2 hours. I just ordered the XL MEMORY CUSHIONS for the v moda and i hope it will improve the confort.

The Fidelio X1 are the most confortable cans you can imagine. Sometimes i forget i m wearing em.. Really a wonderful piece of quality.
The v moda material quality is awesome, but i get sore ears pretty easly and they still hurt the day after.

So.. i have em both, when my ears are ok i use the v moda, when they hurt i switch to the fidelio.

The dragonfly v2 IS NOT enough to drive the Fidelio x1 imo. But adding the DFX audio enhancer it sounds quite ok and powerfull enough.
