New iRiver AK70

Sorry. Just subscribed to this thread. I've been eyeing the AK300 for sometime but the AK70 has got me more interested because of the small form factor...plus cheaper price. :)

Anyways, something has been bothering me recently. Every dap thread I've been to, people seem to pair them with the Mojo. I don't get it. Pairing amps with daps I understand. But isn't Mojo an dac/amp? Then what is the point of buying a dap? You might as well use an iphone/android phone and pair the mojo w/ that. Wouldn't the sound still be the same?

Maybe I've got the wrong understanding on how amps/dacs/daps work and I hope someone clarifies this for me.

Anyways, will be buying the AK70 when it gets out. Believe or not, I got interested because of the mint color. Lol...it's just...different and refreshing.

Doesn't issue without any amp such as mojo.
If got mojo is fine to be enhance bass & deeper soundstage as well.

Everything just depend your mood.

Part of me wants to buy the CDM but than I heard the WA8 and it is far better. But than again I know about a release of a future amp that is aimed to fit the profile of HUGO so hence I will wait.

Looking at CDM and dp-x1 picture it is truly a pretty setup.

Mmm......followed your advice and purchased the Onkyo DPX1 to pair with my CDM via usb micro to micro ic. Unfortunately, the dealer here do not have the proper IC for the Onkyo to the WA8. I'm looking for a high-quality micro to type B usb cable so I can test compatibility between the DPX1 and the WA8. Can you point me to the right direction? If it is not compatible, then I have no choice but to wait for the AK 70 to arrive.

Hate the colour, specs look good though. If it had been a single AK4490 and NOT mint coloured i would have considered it, as it is AK300 is my upgrade path from my Jr.

I'm sure it's been asked / discussed elsewhere, but is the AK4490 that much better than the CS4398? The one additional function that caught my eye looking at the 300's specs is the onboard clock generator ("voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) high-precision clock with a reference jitter value of 200 femto seconds").
Of course there's the advanced EQ and a few other "apps" that the 70 does not support, but I can live without them (I think

This wouldn't work he needs mini to USB B.
The only option is to get it custom made .

Here is one that I can think of on top of my head but there are many great cable makers.

You can for now just use an otg cable and a normal USB to test it. Dpx1 works with anything I paired it with. You can play around with jitter setting of you have stuttering .
My issue with dpx1 is how UI, it isn't made for music.

You're right, of course. Don't know why I had it in my head that mini was b. I'd probably choose an adapter and save some money instead of that cable. That's not a common one, but these two would do the job

This cable is a little longer but much cheaper and should work:

From technical standpoint you are not wrong - provided the digital output is implemented properly the device connecting to the Mojo is just a file transport and providing the front facing UI. So it all boils down to features. A few people don't like to use their main phone as a transport as smartphones are already battery starved as it is - using it as a digital transport just drains batteries more, plus most smartphones emits lots of EMI when it is connected to the cell towers, and those EMI gets picked up by analog circuits and wires and can reveal themselves in forms of those weird beeps clicks and pops, so unless you plan to put your phone in Airplane mode (ie all radios OFF) such that it's no longer working as a phone, phones aren't optimal as transports (unless you have a spare phone which you don't use as a phone).

Then there's general UI, proper DAPs tends to have better customized UI than a straight music player app, though that's not always true, but at least AK IMO does make one of the better UIs out there.

I don't understand either, I refuse to buy a dap just to bypass it for use with moJo.
I've seen people buying top of the line AK players just to pair with moJo! I would rather spend the money on Hugo.

Ak380 + moJo £2,800
Midtier smartphone + hugo £1,700
