Got D600 to compare to Momentums and what a nice surprise after hearing all that bashing! First impression is quite positive-packaging, build quality, comfort, isolation. SQ is definitely not worse that my beloved D2000. Same goes when compared to Momentums- It won't be easy to choose between them.

The both have a very different sound. I think I actually prefer the D600 due to the excellent midrange detail and superior comfort (larger pads).  I thought the bass was a little sloppy on both.  I ultimately owned and returned both of these in favor of the V-Moda M-100 which IMO is the best sounding portable in that price range available today.

Happy to report that these are not like most modern portable headphones with bloated bass and rolled off highs. Initial impressions are there is plenty of treble to make it sound lively.  Midrange is slightly bumped bringing vocals out.   While bass doesn't overwhelm the lower midrange, it is on the loose side.  I do wish there was a little more punch and speed.  More sound impressions to come.

Comfort is extremely high.  They are so light I barely feel it's on my head.  The cups are on-ear, but the cushions are so big it covers my entire ear.  Full review to come.  So far, I enjoy these more than my Sony 1R.

I have the opportunity to pick up the D600s brand new in box today for around $250.  Worth it? :)

On my ears as I type this.

I get nice vendor hookups so unfortunately it's not an opportunity I can share.  I'm definitely enjoying the sound signature.  Reminds me a lot of the D5000s.

You can find open box on Amazon for $280.

I don't like buying used for something I plan on keeping.  Besides, $280 isn't cheap for used when I can get new for not too much more from my headphones guy.

Every time I have purchased open box from a authorized seller the cans were brand new.

Agreed. Especially if they are rated as "Like New". Crutchfield never seems to disappoint with their "used" items.

Amazon is the same way. They'll list an item used like new for something as small as a dented outer box. Most authorized sellers have been the same way ime. Of course open box is something entirely different.

I tried to buy a Momentum on Amazon "like new". Asked A+ seller if I came with everything and he replied comes in brown box (not retail packing). Glad I asked before buying. Not to say every seller is the same but really hard to tell what you may get when buying used.

Any issues with amping the D600's?  They don't require much to drive them, but would pairing them with a higher impedance amp cause any problems?  I have an amp already but I think the minimum impedance recommendation might be a little higher than 25ohms.  Don't want to buy another amp just because of this if I don't have to.

What's the amplifier that you have? What other headphones do you have ?
