The momentums are decent headphones and not catered to explicitly for the hip-hop market. A tad bit I'd say but that is it.
Yes, in fact they are garbage. Mine can't hold the metal from touching my head after a year of hard use and are totally indented on the tops. That is exactly what I call useless, hence, the term crappy.
Why not just buy a set of new pads from Beyer?

The new slightly larger pads that come with the facelift (EDT 1350 SL) aren't available here in the states yet. They're available in Europe:

They sell replacement ear pads and headband pads.
Sorry, no link. But I was told over the phone by the product manager at Beyer that ear pads AND headband pads are available. I don't need them presently so I didn't ask him about where exactly to get them, but I just wanted to be sure they'll be available for future needs. And I was talking to him about the Facelift version of the DT1350 at the time.
The headband pads look like they are glued onto the metal bands. Applying the adhesive and attaching the thin strips of leather pads on those split-headbands is going to be difficult.
