I guess everyone is buying up the K702s so they won't have to be seen with the lime green Q701s.

Has the going price for K702 gone up in recent months?  I remember it being priced in the $240-250 range last year, but now I'm seeing price range $350-450...

Last Thusday I had the chance to visit the AKG production in Vienna

After the round tour I got a test sample of the new Q701 for a while.
After burning in I will report here.

Here are the new pics about:

An got an old AKG K501 too

PS: I read here about differences from K701 and K702 - AFAIK the driver/capsules of the K702 are selected and have minor tolerances between left and right.

I'm very interested to hear your impressions on how similar the Q701 and K701 are too each other. Hopefully at least something (besides color) is different.

Did AKG have the K501 or did you buy it NOS?

We trust you. Looks like they have the same drivers as the 702's, but with AKG you never know...need to check the spec.

Looks like it's a K702 with a name on it. I'd love to know if they changed ANYTHING other than cosmetics. They really didn't need to change anything, but those bumps on the headband!

I got the K501 from a ex AKG worker who is in pension. AKG don't have K501.

K701 and K702 use the same drivers - AFAIK but with minor tolerances in the K702 (see service manuals of both) - AFAIK the Q701 use the same but with a bit other tuning.
After burning in I will hear.

My first check with only one hour burning in - the Q701 are a bit more detailed .... but with the new K702 (I had to test last year) I felt the same.

Hasn't AKG specified already that the K701 and K702 and Q701 are all identical in sound reproduction?

minor tolerances or a bit other tuning did not change the sound character essential.

after burning in I will see what's the differences between K701 and Q701

The Q701 have one benefit - I could change the cable and two are supplied - one 3m (green) and one 6m (black)
AKG use a 3-pin mini XLR - my suggestion to AKG, they should use a 5-pin mini XLR and make ready for balanced wire.

Any difference that is noticed between a K701 and Q701 is likely to be for those specific headphones only. You would not be able to universally state that there is a specific difference, particularly since both are essentially the same headphones.

Exactly....this thread goes still round and round....and guys really really-really desperately wanna find some differences. But, It doesn´t even matter, what AKG guys says...they are the same, just wearing another colour, or having diff. type of cabling.

Wouldn't it still be better to do a dual termination instead of using that wire through the headband?

I don't mind what AKG is doing here.

Yes- it's going to help their sales. But, the bottom line is it also is helping out a charity.

From Engadget:

"...you can feel better about him selling out knowing that an undisclosed sum from every pair of headphones sold goes towards the Quincy Jones Musiq Consortium -- a foundation dediqated to eduqating Ameriqan kids about musiq..."
