Be careful to jump to conclusions, based on a free field measurement of the Utopia, cause that's not how it's actually worn on the head.

Imho, free field measurement makes much more sense with the MySphere. Though, due to short distance between membrane / cushion and ear, bass roll-off will be less severe on the head than the free field graph suggests (which is in line with the graph posted earlier in this thread).

Very true. There is a consistency though between the free field measurements and the ones previously posted. The Utopia has more bite and energy in the 4-5kHz area and it seems that the MySphere has less by comparison. Very interested in hearing these!

I'm no expert at measurement at all, so I ask with that qualifier, how useful is such a measurement and following that how useful is the comparison? I just worry that as the headphones are different the driver angle, height and position from center may be slightly different and therefore the measurement differences might be explained, at least partially, because of positional differences. That is why I like the on the head measurements as while there can and almost surely will be positional differences even with the head technique, you would expect it to be a little easier to control. Not sure about these questions so hopefully Heinz can weigh in. Going simply by what I have seen here in terms of posted measurements, the MySphere measures extremely well.

Does that seem to be significant bass roll off you are seeing there? I thought it actually looked good in that department, but again, I'm no expert.

The free field roll-off is definitely significant below 100Hz. With -10dB @50Hz and -20dB @20Hz, you'd hardly hear any subbass at all, due to masking by mid-upper bass. Fortunately, that's not how it will sound on your head.

The artificial ear measurement shows much milder roll-off, almost linear bass down to 50Hz and -10dB @20Hz. This should be closer to how it will sound on your head, quite impressive bass extension for a fully open design.

True, I tend to consider sub bass important, but not overly so as there isn't always much information down in those regions with much amplitude anyway. I know some genres of music will be an exception, and I do listen to a great deal of electronica myself. I don't listen to classical much, but I assume there can be some significant sub bass in certain classical pieces.

Sound pressure measurement at low frequencies in free field conditions does not mean anything to the final SPL on the ear. This is because of the fully open design causing the "acoustic short cut" to low frequencies.
But this measurement does show very good the performance and linearity of the driver itself.
In the next Homepage update there will be other measurement results on the artificial head as well.

I'm probably in a minority here, but it looks really uncomfortable.
I hate wearing headphones anywhere other than over the crown of my head.

So, no matter how objectively comfortable it might be, it would never feel quite right on my head.
But I am still curious how well this will perform technically, and how many flagships it will decimate.
