Tot that's a bass tube...
In the $300 range, definitely the NAD HP50. Tonally similar to the Alpha Dogs and a more prominent low end, just lacking in resolution and detail retrieval by comparison.
Alpha Dogs produce a nearly neutral, surprisingly spacious and extremely detailed sound that can greatly impress. The bass is impressive and punchy for a neutral headphone, which is impressive enough, but it can also be tweaked if you're that way inclined.
We've all spent much time comparing the AD's to headphones at the top of the heap, which speaks well of the ADs. I am really interested in comparisons down hill a ways. Say closed cans $600 down to $250 or so. I will go for the AD's, but since I like to keep my stuff in great condition, I'm also looking for a good pair of traveling and office cans down in the $250-ish range. I know I like the ADs, MDs. I also know I don't want on ears. If any of you out there have some comparisons and comments, please share, but please stay on topic with reference to the ADs. Note - pretty familiar wit the HD25-1-ii and the Beyer 1350's. Kinda done with those two.

+1 Maybe it's a stupid question but i have an akg k545. Do you think guys that the Mad dog should be an upgrade ? Thanx !
Latest review of the Alpha dog: http://noblehifi.blogspot.com/2014/01/alpha-dog-review.html
As much as I liked the Mad Dog, they look and feel like a modified headphone. The Alpha dog, on the other hand, does not,
I stopped reading after:
Of course, this is the exact opposite of reality. Here are the unmodified ones (actually T40RP) in the studio:
The only difference in the Mad Dogs is the decals. The Alpha Dogs, on the other hand, have custom cups and custom red automotive paint job and seem "less modded" ??

FYI we're moving to a bigger facility on Feb 1. This will likely slow our shipping next week.
Does this mean after a slow down there is a potential speed up? ie more headphones can be done at time.
