I think the THx00 lineup are also overrated, bass was too bloated and uncontrolled. SQ not on par with cost.

They used to sell for like $400-500 dollars too.

Agreed. The ebony wasn't too bad but the mahogany had no soundstage and had no composure with any sort of dynamic piece of music. Bought blind - urgh.

Overrated:

Emp - comfy as heck, amazingly relaxing and consistent - however where is the detail, nastiness when it's on the recording? Nice for early or late in the day. But too soporific for this $.

LCD-2 and 3: no shortcoming on the bass. But the timbre is wrong in the mids. The LCD-4 OG avoided that to a good extent and it's a notable classic as a result. Listen to the HD-600 blow the 2 & 3 out for mids of any acoustic instrument - as long as it's driven correctly. Shocking. I did mean any assuming a competent recording/mix. See work by Doug Sax for many examples.
