OP is a nice guy trying to get his girlfriend a gift and has probably given up on the whole Beats idea, since in 2 pages of responses, only about 2 posts were of some useful feedback (even I made a useless post, I admit it). Not everyone needs to know about sound or wether those were a good deal at that price.

Hi OP, this was a pretty decent and unbiased review I read of the Beats:

He also includes it in a headphone roundup, you might find something you like there:

Yeah, all I can say is stay away from the beats. If she is into rap/hiphop/reggae and wants solid bass you could spring for a pair of Ultrasone Pro 900s depending on the source and stuff. You are an awesome boyfriend if you give her a full blown audio rig. hahahaha. Yeah, tell us your budget, her source (laptop, player, etc), and what she listens to.

They need proper amplification though.

AiAiAi tma-1 is around the same price as beats, much better sound w/o a doubt, and look infinitely sexier on anyone of any gender. But really though, any of these suggestions would look better on a lady than the beats
