Monolith M1060C Closed Back Planar Headphones impressions

So basically with the open I may lose a little impact, but better bass extension along with better soundstage and clarity? The only thing I’m a little worried about with the M1060 open is if I’ll still be able to get the honeycomb grill/fazors. I could just fuzzor them, take the foam off the back and get Eikon pads but I’d love to be get those neat 3dp mods that were around a few months ago when these cans were first released. The question: if I can’t get my hands on a fazor/grill will these still outperform the closed back version?

I’ve got some honey comb grills coming for my m1060c’s. I think these things can sound amazing open if done right. A little experimenting should be fun.

If I weren't going to do any modding I would go with the 1060c but if willing to do the fazor mod and grill mod then I would choose the open version every time. The bass impact isn't that much different and yeah sub bass wins on the open. I've never really had a problem with ringing on the opens and not at all since modding and they just absolutely are the sound I want.

Phew! It's not one of those terms like sibilant. Thought it could go either way. Glad it was for the good.

The driver is new so no more ringing on the 1060c.

On every point, ditto. EQ'ing out the 1060C's peak at ~2Khz makes it a very close call. But I'd pick the opens for width of soundstage (but the closed have the best soundstage of any closed can I've tried).

+1. The sound stage is amazing for a closed back, providing a good bit of width and depth.

HERE is a link to the person here who's got the grill designs you're looking for.

DOes that mean you don't have the 1060 open or you have/had those as well but like the improvements on the 1060c enough to mod the closed backs to open instead?
I’ve only had the m1060c’s and m560’s. I chose the closed back because the opens weak point was the wood. My thoughts were get the closed and mod them so they can be open or closed like the m560’s. And the weakest links would be gone.

mmm have a question, do you know if you can screw off the 560 headband and screw it on to the 1060c yoke?
