Meze EMPYREAN - the First Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone

Oh this is awesome news. Honestly if all they did was make something that had some sound of the 99's with some of the ergo issues resolved (larger cups to fit better around the ears, no more too-tight self-adjusting band, no more boing-boing resonant band) I'd be jumping up and down.

If these fit better AND sound better AND are priced reasonably (more than the 99's less than the $2000+ that most companies seem to think the word "flagship" justifies ), I think they're going to sell a lot of headphones...

that's my favourite feature on the Classics!

I too am really keen to understand what the isodynamic hybrid array is. Does it involve flux capacitors?

Jokes aside. Very keen to learn more as the Classics are great!
Not sure about the flux capacitors :o2smile: but it could mean that it has two types of drivers "arrayed" together somehow, one planar magnetic (or ortho/iso dynamic, whatever you want to call it) and one dynamic.

I was hoping it to be in the price range of Aeon Flow, $799. I think it will be a killer in that price range as there are not much competition yet in that.

I heard that the price will be much higher than $799. Bad move in my opinion for a small company like Meze but I imagine the Rinaro's drivers are very expensive..

I'm VERY stoked for this release. More excited to hear and own these versus anything else.
Meze's price to performance is really hard to beat and one of the best, right on par with the Aeon. I see NO reason why they would change their business model at this point. I have faith in you Meze to stay the course! Good luck!

Very reasonable reasoning, although if it goes past $1000 mark, it will be difficult for me to find justification to buy one.

BTW, does anyone know for sure if this is open or closed headphone?

If it's closed, too expensive will make me reluctant to take it outside.

but if it is open, then it will have to compete with my home set up.
