Just one note for those who are attempting the mod. I would suggest not putting tape on the pleather but on the white plastic ring. When I tried to remove some of the tape the pleather started pealing off a bit. Also, by taping it to the plastic ring it enables you to still be able to adjust the pad later to your liking. Also, stuffing the pad with tons of cotton stretches the pleather a lot so if you decide you don't like the mod the pads will be a little looser than before.
I've only done the pad mod so far since I didn't have any sponge/dampening material around. Anyways, I'm liking what I am hearing. I've always felt that the denons needed a little more depth in the soundstage and this pad mod really seems to do this trick. Nice job Markl. I'm not sure whether the sponge will help my plastic d2000 cups but I plan on doing it anyways.
