Larry, you bought BOTH ? FWIR, the iPad2 isnt a major improvement on the first edition - Apple's marketing aside. I was tempted till I saw the Australian price - we are getting so royally reamed down here with our dollar at 1.04USD and Apple still marking everything up by at least a hundred dollars on the US price.

I was reading reviews where the iPad 2 was going an hour longer on battery than the original, and the speed was 2x faster, so while I was happy with the original I had to try the iPad 2.  The thinner case and lighter weight are a big plus, although I don't expect to use the cameras much.  I haven't sold the original iPad yet, and I might have my wife and kids share it for now.

HPA,
If you wouldn't mind sharing your opinion, is it noticeably faster?  The speed is the only thing that has me considering the upgrade.
Thanks!

iPad 2 seems a little snappier, and the graphics on some racing games is smoother, but I was still happy with the original iPad's speed before.  The problem is that future apps will be taxing the iPad 1 more and more as they are written to take advantage of the iPad 2 speed.

Does this camera connection kit, and more importantly its hidden DAC functionality, work with other ipod/iphones? If there are any hacks/workarounds maybe that would be worth posting on this thread.

Nope the kit does not work with anything other than the iPad..

I think I read that it needs a powered hub; I know the Devilsound DAC cable does, at least with the first iPad and an up to date iOS.

Guys, I thought long and hard about the iPad - we sell them here in the store - but I think I'll go with something that has:

- USB ports and an OS that *should* recognise my MSII straight up
- Flash - sorry, but I like YouTube vids
- 10" screen with 1080P playback (I know - small screen, 1080P doesnt mean much, but its all good)

Please note that its not my intention to threadcrap - just pointing out that there are other options. Not sure how 'seamless' this thing is, but the price is competitive with the 32GB WiFi ipad here in Oz. Even as an employee, we get very little off the Apple RRP.

Don't mean to Hi-jack the thread, but maybe just a small detour. Are there any HDD based players that can bypass its own DAC for a higher quality external DAC + Amp combo? Preferably one with half-decent UI.

If you aren't rabidly anti-Apple, the iPod Classic has a great UI and there are more and more devices all the time that are licensed to extract digital audio from it.

Looks like an interesting product.

Just FYI, iPad plays YouTube video just fine.

I would absolutely love an ipod classic paired with a DAC + Amp combo. As of yet though there is only the CLAS DAC which works with the iPod classic. Is there any other portable solution?
