Just FYI, iPad plays YouTube video just fine.

Can you play them in the web browser or do you need a special YouTube app that filters the offerings?

I would absolutely love an ipod classic paired with a DAC + Amp combo. As of yet though there is only the CLAS DAC which works with the iPod classic. Is there any other portable solution?

There is the AlgorythmSolo and HRT's iStreamer.

The iStreamer needs a wall-wart, but I guess a car battery and 110v inverter would make it kind of portable

Right in the web browser, I just gave it a try to be sure.

You are right about the iStreamer!

The solo is pretty portable, with the downside being it's a little on the expensive side.

Expensive-you think?
i understand its state of the art, and the first real one out of the gate, and r n d costs and all that, but the cost is wayyy prohibitive at this point.

Let me know when ALO puts the dac and amp in one box...for less then 600....and id pay up if they ever got the form factor of a pico slim or arrow....

You're probably right....

from the article:

“It doesn’t matter how Apple explains its way out of this, just the fact that consumers know that their phone is being tracked is a very big deal,” said Chenxi Wang, a vice president of Forrester Research who specializes in security and risk.

Is this really any different from the OnStar system used on GM cars?  It's on all the time and you're tracked even if you don't use it, and "they" can listen in any time they want to.  There are may threads on how to disable it, but if you do it voids your warranty.

I never thought it would come to this:

Well, as you know, expensive is relative in this hobby!

The good news is that as new products like this get introduced they are usually followed by cheaper contenders.

I dont doubt it, Rob.

Read a review in 'Hi-Fi Choice' a while back where the reviewer 'had to have' a cartridge after hearing it in a friend's vinyl rig. Japanese, hand-crafted, limited edition - the whole enchilada, with a price to match.

13K. British pounds, not dollars, at a time when the pound was worth around $2.50 Australian. And he happily paid full retail - no reviewer discount/freebies with this 'work of art'.  At the time, you could buy a base-model family car in Oz for that money - the mind boggles, but thats where this obsession can lead us.

Anyone know if it's possible to get USB audio from the Camera Connection Kit via the official iPad dock?

iPad > dock > CCK

I got a very cheap 3rd party dock for my iPad but it doesn't recognize the CCK....

So before shelling out the money for the real one, I want to make sure it works.
