would a PICO DAC/AMP sound the same with an ipad, as it does with a regular computer/macbook?

Only with the camera and probably the T3.  A PICO user would have to confirm that...

That's cool.  My DACPort draws too much current even for the T3 setup, and the D12 for some reason won't work off the camera connector without a T3, even when the battery charge is off.  I wonder what sinks current on the D12 when it's in battery mode?  I can't imaging the TI chip sinks that much current...

I've never listened to my pico from my iMac so I can't compare sound... But there is no need for the T3, a camera connection kit is all you need. I'm listening to some FLAC files off the iPad as I type!

What iOS are you running?

Any word on the new iBasso D6 "Fer-de-Lance" working with the iPad via Camera Connection kit?  I'm interested in the D6 but hesitant after seeing the posts about the D12 not working.

"Powered by 12.6V Li-polymer rechargeable battery pack, or USB power"

As long as you are running it off it's own battery it should work fine off of the iPad. Otherwise you would need an AC-powered hub.

The D12 works but it *must* be used with a T3Hub, or equivalent.  It's not as awkward as you'd think, as the T3 comes with a 4-5" soft USB extender, so you don't have 5" of junk sticking out of the iPad port.

The odd thing is even when not charging, it somehow draws too much current (either that or something weird is going on with it's USB.  I can't figure out why the unit draws >20ma when not charging, the input on the USB should be lower current than that, from the TI spec).  Since the D6 uses a different USB chip, it may behave differently.  Look forward to hearing from someone when they arrive...
