EQ in digital domain is for amateurs. If they don't get it, why fight them?.
wondering if some here know that Audeze themselves are masters of EQ for their headphones.. if you want to hear how they tune their headphones with EQ then just download their software, Audeze Reveal+ Plugin, and install it in JRiver and you can choose the headphone model with their in house EQ... they also supply Roon with EQ presets... for some of their in-ear (iSINE) they put the EQ into DSP chips mounted on the headphone cable... if done correctly there is nothing wrong with EQ to adjust to a certain preference to sound signatures... and some are perfectly content on listening to headphones without EQ... nothing wrong with that either... if presented a solution to make your headphones sound better then why wouldn't you at least try EQ... in the digital domain... :)

I just got a MM-500. The MM-500 is my $1700 analog hardware EQ for my LCD-X (2021). And that MM-500 is the best headphone EQ I've ever heard.

I've been to headphone meets in Portland OR and Seattle WA back in the 2010 era when Audeze was starting out. There were and are some serious planar headphone fans in the Portland and Seattle area. Audeze was keen to get our opinions about the early Audeze headphones. Sankar and/or Alex were at numerous local Portland/Seattle meets back then. And I got to talk to them both about Audeze headphones. I can assure you that they were not doing EQ back then and that the classic LCD-2/LCD-3 style sound signature is what they intended for audiophile listening and did intentionally. The use of EQ came later after pro-audio people started using the headphones. And then the use of EQ and their Cypher EQ/DAC became a crutch to fix wonky tuning of the Sine.

I still own a 2011 era LCD-2r2 along with the rosewood box that the Audeze headphones used to come with. I've been doing this Audeze headphone thing for a while.

Thanks for sharing that info... and you are absolutely correct.... they of course had to fix the iSINE for obvious reasons and they have moved to the recording studio with their EQ methods... they did that because a recording studio has speakers for use during the mixing and using a headphone that wouldn't match the speakers FR was causing issues, so they introduced EQ to emulate the speaker FR in the studio.... makes perfect sense... and if done properly the recording engineer can use those headphones where ever they choose and still work on mixing the recording just like they were in the studio... thats how good EQ is getting today... you can emulate any speaker FR and take that with you if needed... what would be really interesting is if you could capture the FR of the Susvara and with the proper EQ make your LCD-X sound like the Susvara perfectly... could be done pretty easily... you could even use its close cousin the HE1000se or the HE1000v2.... would you take a Susvara emulating headphone for $1200.... what a bargain

Quite amateur.

Altering the quoted text of someone else's post is childish and annoying. Because their name gets attached to a quote that they did not say. Don't alter or misrepresent the quoted text. It's childish and misrepresents what that person meant and said when someone comes back years later to read that post and thinks that person actually said that.

What you think is not important to me or anyone else. You are not in charge of me or anyone else. You are not an authority on anything.

hi @Jonne Haven .... curious if you might decide to port over your Magic EQ you built for your X to your XC... I'd love to try out what you could come up with on the XC too... :)
Hey @Dixter,

I'm not sure I can achieve the same "magic" with the LCD-XC as it is a more direct and less holographic sound than the X but I'll get right on it and try!

Blessings,

Ok @Dixter,
Here's what I'll just call EQ Take 1. The XC doesn't have the same sweet spots as the X so it's a small adventure trying to find them on a closed back HP. I think I have it sounding pretty good though.

The "official" pre-amp setting is -19dB (I know it's a lot, the XC requires a bit more power than the X) but using your pre-amp method trick you can probably get away with -14dB for 99% of your songs. Just beware of modern rap sub-bass.

LCD-XC 2021 EQ Revision 10-12-22
Preamp: -19 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 20 Hz Gain 4.5 dB Q 1.3
