LCD-X and XC Update

Woke up and did some neck exercises to prepare for their arrival. I think I like the lacquered wood look of the pre-'21 models.

I like the weight of my X actually, I think psychologically putting them on I feel like I'm wearing a tool and not a toy like the Ananda. Though the Ananda sounds great in its own way, holding them is just, well...disappointing. The X feels like I'm stepping into a mini-arena of sonic indulgence!

I don't find my LCD-X 2021 to be heavy at all. I probably would not recommend it to a person with a small frame though. A person who weighs 130 pounds would probably have a hard time with this headphone.

We lived and worked in Nepal for a while. Nepali porters carried loads like those in the painting daily (which btw is original and hanging in my house, so I do have permission to share). They start when very young building up their neck muscles. It’s not a case of ‘want to’ but ‘have to’ as for many this is the only means of livelihood (still). I think most of them weighed much less than 130#. A very different life than I have led, for sure.

I agree. I like the heft of the LCD-X (2016 with the old-style headband). Psychologically, heft implies solidity.

i was worried before I got my LCD-Xs (2021)…..small head…proportional neck

I ordered a carbon fiber band (for me ….a waste of $$$). What did work was a trim on the leather suspension support strap. Big difference.

But the REALLY big difference for me is the fact that due to life/multiple hp’s that I never have them on my head for more than a few hours at a time…..AND I think that they are fantastic….a real reference headphone, especially at this price point.

I love my 2016 LCD-X. They sound fantastic with my h/p/a ranging from Gilmore Lite II to Woo WA6SE. I cannot use the LCD-X, having 20 ohm nominal impedance, with the o/t/l Woo WA2. I never use EQ (for any h/p).

For me, the Gilmore mkii or the Lyr 3 (Ratheon VT231) sound perfect without any EQ

I shortened the leather strap on my LCD-XC (2019) by a few millimeters to achieve a gap with the steel headband. Lesson: always hang your headphones by the steel strap (to avoid weighing down the leather strap).

Is this the only way to solve the problem about strap touching the steel band really. I am a bit afraid to do something wrong. Any other suggestions?

It really is nothing to be nervous about. The 'mod' to shorten the strap is super easy. There are several places here on Head-Fi and abroad where people have posted tutorials with good pictures. It really is the best solution and coincidentally the cheapest.

You can try to contact Audeze for a headband with a shorter strap.
