In terms of real leather vs. the leather-free option, any ideas which would be more durable of the two?
I'd say personally speaking, I'd think real leather would last longer and not peel. Officially speaking, I don't know, nor do I think is something discussed.

I updated my EQ again to the following. People should give this a try. I think you will be very impressed. The sound quality, bass tightness, detail retrieval, midrange clarity, and imaging are just excellent.

Pre-Amp = -5

20Hz = +1.5 Q 4.32
25Hz = +1.5 Q 4.32
30Hz = +1 Q 4.32
70Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
80Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
400Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
500Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
700Hz = -1 Q 4.32
1kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
1.9kHz = +1 Q 4.32
3kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
3.5kHz = +2.5 Q 4.32
4kHz = +1.5 Q 4.32
8.2kHz = +1 Q 4.32
11kHz = -0.5 Q 4.32
12kHz = -2.5 Q 4.32
I used yours to start on my LCD-XC

Do you guys use hardware EQ boxes or software? What's typical? I'm new to high end headphones. Found it strange that there's so much information and content out there on headphone specific amps but I'm not finding anything on hardware EQ's for headphones. Obviously you could use any pro-audio EQ but I would think there would be hardware units with similar form factor to headphone amps and headphone-user oriented options.

Software is typical. Schiit has a hardware EQ I think,but I'm not positive. It's like 4 band. Anything more than that would start to make a crowded desktop.

Schiit makes the Lokius which is their newest hardware EQ and it is 6 bands. It is very compact in form to match their Modius/Magnius DAC/Amp stack. I just ordered one last week. When it arrives I will stack it with my Grace SDAC Balanced and THX789. Lokius is shown in this pic (not my pic) with some other head-fi gear, you can see that it is pretty un imposing on a desktop set up. I cannot wait to test it and contrast/compare with my Equalizer APO/Peace software EQ. I love to touch all of my knobs, so I am pretty sure I will enjoy myself.

Holy smokes, I have that same headroom micro headphone amp. It was my daily driver for the last 15 yrs and was only replaced recently by the atom amp and then the DX7 pro. Its been a while since I've seen someone else with that amp.

Please give your impressions of the Lokius when you can, I have the Loki mini+ and I like it but it could use a bit more expansion. I also love that it has balanced inputs and outputs

Alright, I ended up horsing around with my LCD-X 2021 again last night and then this evening. After testing with multiple CDs and multiple tracks, this is the newest EQ that I have created. I have well over 100 hours of usage on this headphone by now, and it appears to have now reached its final burned in sound. This is an excellent headphone, and I am certainly glad that I decided to purchase it. It has been quite a bit of fun fine tuning it to get the most out of it.

Pre-Amp = -5

20Hz = +1.5 Q 4.32
25Hz = +1.5 Q 4.32
30Hz = +1 Q 4.32
100Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
125Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
160Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
400Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
500Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
700Hz = -1.5 Q 4.32
800Hz = -0.5 Q 4.32
1.9kHz = +1 Q 4.32
3kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
3.5kHz = +2.5 Q 4.32
4kHz = +1.5 Q 4.32
4.45kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
5.5kHz = -1 Q 4.32
8.2kHz = +1 Q 4.32
12kHz = -2.5 Q 4.32
