Audeze LCD-X and XC

Ever since the LCD-X and XC were introduced, we’ve continually refined them over the
years, striving to develop the best headphones for both the studio professional and the
audiophile. Some recent examples of these refinements are the headbands and ear
cups.
Even more importantly, the critical thin film we use for our diaphragms has been
revised and improved. From the original thicker film we started with, to the much thinner
film we started using a few years ago - even the chemical composition has morphed
over time.

Far ahead of the entire planar magnetic industry, Audeze moved very early on from
chemical etching to laser etching – we even hold several patents for this process. The
latest versions of the Editor’s Choice - and record producer’s reference – LCD-X and
XC have improvements for more consistent performance, with newly optimized
magnetic circuits that offer the sonic excellence our users have known for many years.
We also modified the LCD earpad material to get a better seal around the ears on
differently shaped heads for a more consistent sonic experience. All of this is with an
eye towards continually improving our products so that you have the best possible
listening experience.
All LCD-Xs produced from November 23, 2020 and all LCD-XCs
produced since November 9, 2020 have these improvements.

Additionally, we’re including our new economy carry case at no additional charge in the
LCD-X and LCD-XC Creator packages. And for the Premium LCD-X/XC packages, we
now include the 4 pin balanced XLR cable and a 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter cable (in
addition to the standard 6.3mm cable).

I bought new lcd-xc earpads in January 2020. Was this after the new earpads changes were done? Or should I order new earpads?

"Resolve" form the Headphone show said the headphones don't really need EQ anymore, so on the FR front, I'd say that means they changed pretty significantly.

That is interesting, as the LCD-X is Audeze's best selling gear, and they've now changed it's sound....:)
In Europe, the Leather Pad(s) equipped version, is the prize and crown jewel for studio professional's who mix and master, and that is quite an achievement.

No doubt that Audeze understands that man made pads save money in a world where Covid is crushing the retail market, and they would, im sure, spend a lot of time making sure that their bread and butter is not ruined, sonically, before they went to "Press".
Hopefully, then, the new sound, the new LCD-X, will be even better, as the previous incarnation is a world class sound.
And who does not like a "carry" case" vs a cardboard box.
Its all good.
Bring on the "new".
Im all ears.

Resolve's measurement of the LCD-X with the "previous" pads on a GRAS 43AG. This is an exceptionally inaccurate sounding headphone, to say the least, and totally lacking ear gain.

I truly hope Audeze will release more in-house measurements, and for every single product they make, to prove that this is fixed. The other LCD models suffer from a similar problem.

Audeze has a "sound".
Its not Harman, and it's not what we think of as existing as : natural or neutral.
Its "welcome to the world of Audeze sound", land.
Hifiman is similar, they have what Fang likes, per model, and this is not trying to be a snapshot of photographic sonic likeness.
Did you ever hear the original HE400? That thing weighed a tone, was so treble etched, mid lacking, and bass boosted, yet, it sounds good.
It does not sound "lifelike".
So, Audeze and HIMN are not trying to reproduce "Lifelike"
The LCD-X, is one of their best "sounds", and it plays well with music, but, its not a window into sonic realism.
Perhaps the recent MX-4 is trying to be less colored............
I suspect that the "new" LCD-X is not going to be the Queen of Sonic Naturalness, and that's ok., as that's Audeze.
Im sure i'll eventually try the "new' LCD-X.
Let the good times roll... :)

That sounds somewhat counterintuitive to Audeze's marketing that directs the LCD-X for music production use.

Is it just the new pads that are responsible for this FR change?
