LCD-X and XC Update

I’m not a big burn-in guy, but after I received my 2020 XC’s, the very first time I listened to them I was surprised how much body they seem to lack. And literally, no joke, the very next time I put them on they filled out and had a good body on the low end and a full range for both balance and richness. It literally was like something clicked. This was not after hours of white or pink noise. So, I would just say let them run and warm up just a bit and then try them again with your amp of choice and see what you think.

A question about 'balanced' inputs - I hear if you run the LCDX's 'balanced', you can get more power to them, etc, - what does that mean? I thought it may have been balanced cables?
Can someone give me a 'balanced for dummies' example on how one would go about using balanced cables or sound?

I found my LCD-X 2021 to be quite the chameleon. The sound continued to change all the way up until about 70 hours usage. Since then, it has been fully burned in and achieved its final sound.

People should give my EQ a try on their LCD-X 2021. I think you will be very impressed in how it makes this awesome headphone sound.

Pre-Amp = -5

20Hz = +1.5 Q 4.32
25Hz = +1.5 Q 4.32
30Hz = +1 Q 4.32
70Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
80Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
400Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
500Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
700Hz = -1 Q 4.32
1kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
1.9kHz = +1 Q 4.32
3kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
3.5kHz = +2.5 Q 4.32
4kHz = +1.5 Q 4.32
8.2kHz = +1 Q 4.32
11kHz = -0.5 Q 4.32
12kHz = -2.5 Q 4.32

In short, TRUE balanced means you have a dedicated amp going to each channel (2.5, 4.4, or XLR CONNECTION). However, some amp/DACs aren’t truly balanced and just use balanced connectors as an option. High impedance headphones (200 on up) can benefit from balanced (it’s slight, but I like it more than just high gain switch), but you’d be hard-pressed to hear a huge difference in lower impedance headlines. My $.02.

Pre-Amp = -5

21Hz = +2 Q 4.32
30Hz = +1 Q 4.32
70Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
80Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
100Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
350Hz = +0.5 Q 4.32
400Hz = +1 Q 4.32
500Hz = +1 Q 4.32
750Hz = -1 Q 4.32
1kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
1.85kHz = +1 Q 4.32
3.5kHz = +2.5 Q 4.32
4kHz = +1.5 Q 4.32
4.5kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
5kHz = +0.5 Q 4.32
8.2kHz = +1 Q 4.32
12.1kHz = -2.5 Q 4.32
Now that the topping has come in, I can finally try this out, and I verified the APO/PEACE EQ does work now, tested last night with the HD650's.

How are you liking the DX7 Pro ? Did you switch out the opamps yet ?
Its very nice so far, beefier and laid back sound for sure but i'm sure that's due to the stock opamps. Funny thing is, the same stock opamps in the DX7 are the same opamps I initially swapped out the stock opamps on the soundcard for (OPA1612). The Burson vivids are ordered, but coming from AUS, I have no idea how long it will take to get to the US. I'm thinking of going two V5i for line out and 2 vivid for headphone, if that'll work. Dont see why it wouldnt, I had 2 completely different opamps on my sound card and had no issue.

I'd like to swap out one of the opamps and throw the V5i in it right now, but I cant find which opamps are the ones to swap for the line out. There's 4, and the two to swap are apparently in the back of the unit that i'm assuming are for the XLR and RCA line out.

The two front opamps are for the headphone output, and the two back ones are for the line out.
Do you know if you have to swap both or can swap just one? I only have one opamp to swap but need to make sure its the RCA line out I swap. So far I cant find any info on it and anything I can find, both are getting swapped. If I can just swap one for now, that would be ideal till the vivds come in.

You have to do both.
Excellent, thanks a million, I thought so, but couldn't get any real clarification. I'm trying to get an answer for this as well, but again can't find one - do you know if its possible to have the sound card and the DAC on the same PC, not trying to use them at the same time of course, but switch between the two through the volume control in windows? Presently I'd be able to switch between two monitors and the DAC. Theoretically, I should be able to do that with the sound card as well as its seen as another USB device?

Yes, you can have both on the same PC without any issue.
This is excellent news!
Where's the bow emoji, you're like the info king!

Ok, one more question and that should be it :D
Can I use different opamps in the unit? For example, 2 Burson V5i for line out and Burson vivids for headphone? I did that with the sound card, in the headphone area I had an OPA1612 and in the line out I had the Burson V5i, no problems. Theoretically it should work again on this unit, right?

And I'll be trying out your EQ later, but I know its going to sound completely different with the Bursons if you're using them already. On second thought, I might wait until they come in, whenever that will be. Just ordered yesterday and have no idea how long it'll take.

Yes, that won't be any problem. You can use the V5i for the line out and the V6 Vivid for the headphone out without any issue. I think you will be impressed with my EQ. I have had a few people message me after they tried it. They all said it is the most natural and balanced sounding EQ they have tried thus far on their LCD-X 2021.
