After reading through all the posts of this thread, I've pulled the trigger on a pair of these last night! Hoping to receive them tomorrow!

On Amazon, they qualify for free one-day shipping if you're a Discover card user. =)

Wow, weird. They've been $50 for the past week. Today I say they're too low at $50 and now the price goes back to $79.99

Strange coincidence or what? I do hope they stay around the $50 price. I think they're a steal at that price.

Haven't seen them go above $50 on amazon.

hey tdock, do you think these are worth buying if you already have akg k601's?

I think so. I also have the K601 and like it a lot. Both have some similarities in their sound signature. Right now i'm mostly using the DJ100, Q701 and HD-580 though.

And any amp you're using with the K601 will benefit the DJ100.

i might pick one up when amazon drops em back to 50, what in your opinion are the differences between the 2? like what what strengths and weaknesses do you find in both? because from what i gather, both are monsters when it comes to mids, only difference outright without hearing the dj100's is what im guessing going to be in the soundstage department as the k601's are open and sound cavernous lol

I would say the DJ100 has more bass, smoother treble and less of a lower treble peak. Both really excel with vocals I think (especially female). Obviously the K601 has a much better soundstage with better imaging/instrument separation. I actually think the K601 is better than the Q701 in this area.

Mids on the DJ100 are more forward for sure I think. Not so forward that they sound abnormal and cause fatigue.

DJ100 IMO has better sub-bass than the K601. The K601 seems a bit warmer than the DJ100, but some won't agree with that. The K601 might actually have more mid-bass, but not 100% sure.

I need to listen to my K601 more..

I have the DJ100 and K601 too. Bass seems louder on the DJ100, but bass definition is better on the K601 to me. Both have a nice midrange but the DJ100 rolls off more in the upper-mids to lower treble. I think the DJ100 is slightly warmer than the K601.

The DJ100 is a pretty good headphone. Especially if you can get it for $50!

I was just looking at them a few days ago for $46... today they are still $79. Fortunately, Best Buy has them on sale for $59.99 right now. Not sure how long the sale will last.

Probably only a few days. It seems headphones rarely go on sale at Best Buy. It's tempting because I want to compare my Tony Bennett to the DJ100. Should be identical in sound.
People can also do an inventory check on Best Buy's website and do in store pickup. Their DJ200 demo sounds identical to the DJ100. It's way in the back in the pro audio department.

BTW i've found Pro700 MK II pads are dirt cheap at only $8 per side from Audio Technica. I should buy some to try. They're round and not oval like the M50 pads.

I bet the DJ100 is quite good with the M-Stage.

Well, after giving these a good week of listening......

They just aren't cutting the mustard for me. After owning a pair of Equation Audio RP-22x cans, these just don't have the impact and bang in the low end that I crave. The setups I listen to these with are in my sig. The main use is for determining which songs have enough bass to sound good in my car, so I need cans that can mimic the bang of the system in my car and these cans just can't. It's very easy to make them bottom out and the bass doesn't rattle my brain. I could see myself using these for my portable setup as they are a very balanced sounding can that, in spite of my observations here, do have pretty good bass but when I listen on my PC I need my wig pushed back.

Considering some Audio Technica ATH-PRO700 MKII's, think that'll do the trick?
