i will share pictures when i get the recable under way. The insides of the 70x are lacking in good wiring, specifically the way the right channel gets the signal. Seriously why does akg use the metal band of the headband to carry the signal! i love these cans but this is a frustrating matter and it is consuming me! anybody have suggestions for cable to do a dual entry into these bad boys? please dont recomend jena cuz thats just a rediculous price to pay for cable(125$ for 25 feet...) thanks, happy listening!

You can change the inside cables, and even go balanced with the 702's, but you'll need to rewire the whole system and add 4 pin connectors. Here more info: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f21/ak...-cable-378255/

I never checked a different detachable cable.

No change regarding the amp? Does it add a bit more lower end compared to your AVR?

Nope still really can't tell much of a difference. Not that its a problem because both have great bass extension and decent control. I guess its not a bad thing that my AVR doubles as a great amp for these phones. Saves me some money. I'll prolly keep if for another few weeks though before I make my final decision on whether or not to sell it. I am also pondering buying a pair of HD600s if I find a nice deal and seeing if I like them better then the K701s. I am just curious to see which I like better.

Also I like most things in black but I have to say IMO the K701s looks are better then the K702s. They really look nice in white with the brown leather headband and stainless sides imo.

I love my K702 much more than my old HD600. Even with SAA cable the Senns lacked the clarity and snap the K702 provides. Also I am thinking about cable options for the K702 but I am thinking that dual entry is the way to go, simply because I dont want signal loss traveling through the headband.

When I first got my K701s, I thought they really sounded like crap, the highs are almost unbearably sharp.
But now I have about 250hrs of burn in on my K701s, and I'm honestly loving them more and more! In fact i love them so much now, i find my ES3Xs inferior..

Maybe more burn in K701s will sound EVEN better? =D

tdogzthmn, im glad to see you found a pair of 702's i remember seeing you wanting to trade a pair for your 600's and i thought about it but im really glad i just stuck with the 702. I see you mentioned wanting a dual entry on your 702 so i had to mention that im doing a recable sometime this week or next week, whenever the cable gets here. I'll be posting pics and project sequence once i get underway. I went with the double helix nucleotide wire, ive seen and heard good things (not to mention its cheap). I'll post a project thread and then a review thread when the cable has some time to settle into the 702's. Happy Listening

Yeah most people who like the K701 pick up a HD6x0 for the first time and don't get it. When I got my HD650 I was mighty disappointed. Then I defoamed them and the veil was gone. However, it just didn't sound that interesting so I put the foams back in and began to enjoy the dark sound sig.

I don't get those who haven't tried a K701 who go on about the Senns being better at everything but soundstage. The level of detail between the two is so far apart, it's not funny. Everyone then assumes I am not amping them properly but I have tried the Senns on a CKKIII and a Canamp. Same problem. I am looking a buying a M³ in the future but I doubt this is going to change things too much.

I have owned the HD580, HD600, and HD650 so I am familiar with their sound. I even sold the HD650 because I found the HD600 to sound more neutral. Then after owning the K601 and K702 I found the AKGs to be more natural and detailed.

mmayer167: I look forward to seeing your recable job. One thing that I do miss about the Senns was that it was very easy to swap out cables and I like the dual entry design. I am not too sure that the AKGs have the best wiring but they still sound great so who knows?

"I am not too sure that the AKGs have the best wiring but they still sound great so who knows?"

You would be hard pressed to find another brand of headphone with worse wiring than the top AKG's. Very hard to change also. I only saw once on here someone that modded a pair of K701 with dual entry and have not found that tread again. The result was higher efficiency and better sound quality from what I got from the thread.

Got a new K702 today, recabled with Black Dragon and balanced. I'm (almost) speechless :).
I owned a K701, but the MKV wasn't good enough to drive them properly. Now with the Roc it's a different story. These cans are incredibly fast, with a fantastic level of detail.
One thing I've noticed: the K702s may share the same drivers but are different from the K701s: the pads are stiffer, and clamp tighter. This can result in some kind of difference in the sound. But they look cheaper than the K701s :frowning2:

I saw that moon audio had some dual entry K702s but the price was pretty steep. I once took apart my K601 to study its wiring and I dont think it would be too difficult to rewire given some patience.

Unfortunately I can't tell you as I haven't listened to a stock K702. I used to have a stock K701, but again, I had a different amp.
I can tell you that after 4 hours only I prefer them to my balanced DT880... and I really enjoyed my beyers.

Listening to a new pair of K702s with a newly built M^3. The 702s and the M^3 are a match made in audio heaven. Tried AD8610's and Burr Brown OPA627 opamps. I prefer the 627s sound. I sold my HD600s, not involving although the portable amp was likely part of the problem, I don't think it was up to the job.
