Seconding, these worked great for my Q701 and have held up nicely in the two years since I bought them (not my main can, though, so not so heavy use).

I knew you had some 501's and the 812 IIRC.

I do miss my K7's time to time (712 and Annies)

The gel pads are hard to beat (with the added body/warmth)

There are quite a few resellers...look specifically for K701, sometimes there's an option for angled...the black ones you see in my photo were angled, although to be honest there really is little if any difference in sound IMHO and probably why AKG did not continue with the angled pads.

But that is a healthy dose of AKG. I realize I had quite a few myself when I think about it... at least 6 different models. now I have 0 for some reason. Not b/c I don't like them, but gotta give up some to get some I guess...

I still love my K550, if I could find replacement pads for them too would be grateful!
Too difficult to find a similar one to the default as the pads of K550 loose their touch too soon.

NO, there is no alternatives to the Original K701 pads (and original under-pad foam) in term of sound. Non-original pads WILL sound different.

I own the Q701,K702, Sextett and the K340. I sold my K1000 recently. My preference would be the K340 with the green driver. When slightly eq'd with plenty of juice behind them.. Their resolution, imaging, speed and soundstage is superior to anything I've yet to encounter. That includes the K1000's.

I presently have pair of AKG 712s with a moon audio silver dragon cable with the furutech Carbon Fiber headphone plug. I used to have Austrian AKG K701 but I literally wore them out after having them a long time the headband completely disintegrated after thousands of hours of use. Might I suggest since I did it on my AkG701s Upgrade the Headphone plug to Furutech headphone plug. The change in sound is definitely worth the investment. If you liked the AG 701s you will like them even more after you upgrade the headphone plug.
