The AKG K701 is an amazing headphone, but if you're considering it or the Pro 900, you definitely need to narrow down your musical tastes (unless you want and can afford both).  The K701 has bass that extends very well, but it is very quiet and anemic.  The Pro 900 is the opposite, with thunderous bass that shakes your ears.  I would decide which genres you like the most and get a headphone tailored to those genres.

EDM > Pro 900Classical, Acoustic > K701

(Personally I've found the Denon D5000 to be a great meeting point between the two, but this isn't the thread for that

)

lol, "quiet and anemic" do you think the Pro-900 bass is the way should sounds bass?

Of course, I should mention that I listen to EDM.  I absolutely recognize that the K701 is much more neutral and true to the recording, but for that genre, I believe that it is anemic.

For other genres, the K701's neutrality and amazing soundstage is something that needs to be heard to be believed.

Man are my Q701s comfortable!
Just tried out a pair of Senn HD650 s yesterday. They sound a wee bit muffled but the worst part was the head in a clamp effect. Maybe it's just me, but the Senns put too much force on my head.
I also tried out a pair of Grado SR325i, they are fairly comfortable, but not as comfortable as the mighty Qs. Soundwise I thought the Grados sounded rather too " hi-fi".......i.e. too much treble, too much bass.
I'm really digging the Q701 s even more now.

The Pro-900.......personally I don't think I could live with that much bass.

I received my Q701 yesterday. I have to tell you, I love them. They really remind me of my Shure SCL4's. I think they have plenty bass depending on what song you play. I might not have the "elephant bass" that most people are looking for. But bass is there.  Also they aren't as bright "to me" as I hear on the this forum. What really sold them from me is my wife hates a lot of treble and absolutely hated the klipsch speakers, I once wanted to buy. But she loves these and said she would use them!

I thinking about getting a Heed amp and calling day for a while.

hi fellow head fi members, long time reader first time post,

I just want to confirm some information regarding the K701/K702/Q701

K702 is the K701 with thicker ear pads?

are all of them the same?

because when I check headphone.com's graph they show different Frequency Response graph

I guess Q701 lime version is pretty special cuz I dont think I seen any high end greenish headphones before I would probably be interested in white version

what version would you guys get?

whats a reasonable price for the 701?

thanks

They're the same.  FQ response graphs can vary depending on a variety of factors, don't put a lot of weight in them.  Q701 is the same from 90% of reports.  Go with the cheapest one.  Buy used, they show up often.  Reasonable price used: $190-230.

@ Parall3l

Yes, K701s are power hungry.  Think Lyr rather than EF5.

I decided on getting the Q701s because they came with 10 foot AND a 20 foot cable.
I use both lengths.
I would get either K702 or Q701 because they have detachable cables.
