some people like to be more anon i suppose. I have a late model, but I may be interested in trying an early model. Though getting the my sphere is probably smarter. I paid $1600 plus shipping, though I think $1500 is probably a better number, as of last summer. Then again, I've seen 2k on up to like 4k for a black box version, which struck me as ridiculous, but oh well.

Has the K1000 market cooled off? Low $1k-ish seems to be the norm these days for most K1000s.

Yeah, I still use mine every few weeks — more of a speaker guy these days — but I can’t recommend buying them new. I more or less stand by my review.

Is there any issue with K1000 sitting unused for too long? I leave mine in the wood box when I'm done with it.

I have two sets of K1000's for the better part of 20 years and still rotate them through my regular set to listen to. Keeping them in their case when not in use is [also] a good way to preserve them. It's amazing how great they sound even by today's standards.

The image below shows one bottom corner of my K1000 box. On the faded sticker, the first part of line 2 is 0443. Could it be the serial number?

Online K1000 photos show the S/N (usually 5 digits) imprinted on a tiny plastic emblem glued at the end of the headband. Unfortunately, it was missing before my ownership. I talked to someone at AKG USA. He said line 1 is the product code. For line 2, he said the last two parts (27 D5) could be the production code, but he didn't want to guess the first part.

If you have the original box with a similar sticker, does it show the same numbers as on the plastic emblem?
Could the S/N be anywhere else? For example, certain other brands have it inside the earcup.

No, it is not the serial number. The serial numbers started from 01001 and ended somewhere between 11000 and 11999.
The cardboard outer box has the serial number, but considering the condition of the headphones and the wooden box, it seems you don't have it, do you? There is no serial number inside the headphones.

Hallo Heinz,
