joined the club. soldering the 4-pin xlr female connector to 6,5mm cable was a pain in the a$$



for the moment i am using a smsl sa 50 amp, but will return it the next days to go for something better.
any amp recommendations for a budget up to a grand (used or new)?

some interesting options for now:

- C.E.C. AMP 3800
- Rega Brio
- Mission Cyrus III
- Parasound 275
- Burmester 897
- Krell KAV 300i
- Marantz PM 6006

any experience with one of these?

You need a speaker amp and to connect it to the speaker terminals. It's all good from there . I've got a cheap Denon Integrated Amp, I've also got a First Watt F6 Power Amp. The only headphone amplifier I've got which gives plenty of voltage to the K1000 is the Benchmark Dac1. I've taken the jumper out that limits the voltage going to the headphones . All 3 options work great

Actually many headphone amp out there provide decent power for the k1000 such as the liquid gold, Masskobo394 II (I personally own), headlamp gsx (maybe)

Yes, the 6006 will do a great job, especially through the speaker taps

subjective impressions for anyone interested:

- SMSL SA50: great attack, rhythm, can get harsh, little bit noisy, subpar vocal performance, relatively flat soundstage, one channel dropped in one instance
- Marantz PM-6006: nice build and looks, relaxed sound, subpar attack and rhytm, boring, strange fuzz noises on several tracks
- Rega Brio: very bad build quality on two copys, little bit noisy, great attack and rhythm, good vocal performance, very wide but soundstage but not much depth
- Emotiva BasX A100: very good build quality, very silent, great attack and rhythm, good vocal performance, very wide soundstage and good depths <- kept

so to summarize: in my experience K1000s sound best with class [a/ab]

Hello all,

Finally joined the club and hope I'm not necro'in this thread.
Hope to get some advices on amp suggestions (if I were to upgrade, still debating, currently on THX 887) as of 2022, some hopes:

1. Preferably headphone amps (reason see #2, but if that can be met then speaker amp can also do)
2. Can also work not too bad with HD800
3. Budget range (likely not going very crazy on it but want to see what options I get):
   1. $0-2K
   2. $2-4K
   3. $4-7K
   4. $7-10K

Eddie Current 2A3 MKIV 6 watts SET Speaker/Headphone amp, if you can find one.

Personally, never had any luck with RCA out for K1000, speaker amp wins hands down.

Apparently like you mentioned EC 2A3 MKIV is so rare that I cannot find and used on sale anywhere (but I'll keep looking). Looks like EC now only sales Studio B with 2A3 and 300B options. Do you by any chance have any insights on the difference and whether I could try it instead? Sorry for my ignorance, have 0 familiarity with tube.
Additionally what's your opinion between 2A3 or 300B tube? Also any alternative tube amp on the market that may worth a try?

Also just want to make sure I understand correctly, when you say "never had luck with RCA out" you mean using RCA socket output to connect K1000?

There are none that I'm aware of. But if the leather is still intact and the foam is deteriorating, it's a fairly easy fix to re stuff the pads.
