K-ON!! and J-Music Disscussions
Nov 20, 2010 at 8:21 AM Post #226 of 243
I just listened to 'This Illusion' by M.H. for about the millionth time (OP from the Fate/stay night VN). It's a fantastic song with a great techno beat, but the vocals are just flawed in their recordings. It's a pity, because I like to listen loud and the harshness tends to shred my ears. I have no idea if this mysterious 'M.H.' has done any other songs and I have no idea where I'd find them. Anybody know?

I'm also continuing to dig school food punishment - sort of electronic rock with brilliant female vocals. Definitely worth listening to a few tracks - my favourites are 4:59 and Densha, Suberiochiru, Headphone from the amp-reflection album. They've some of the songs for Eden of the East, for reference.

Thanks for reminding me. I completely forgot to download the Angel Beast official OST after I got tired of waiting a while back.

Thank god for mirc. Torrents are all dead and would take forever for FLAC files.

XDCC is definitely the way to go for anything anime related. Fast and painless. I will say no more...

Is this still a K-ON discussion thread?

I started watching K-ON a few months ago, but I dropped it because the pacing was too slow and boring. I picked it up again a few days ago (I needed a happy anime to watch after watching Tokyo Magnitude 8.0) and now I love it!

Also, my new avatar is Mio-chan with K701s <3

Finally found a thread that is at least related to my interest..
Reminds me of that I was once really tempted to get the k701 as my first proper headphones just because of K-On.. though given up almost immediately after trying it at my friend's place (both comfort and sound character problems..orz)
And its a pity to me that Anisong/ost or Jpop are so unseen around head-fi.

Recently some my favourite songs are:
Resuscitated Hope - Gosick ED (I'm waiting for its single...)
For You - Hourou Musuko ED (The anime itself is my most favourite among Jan anime too)
Ma.Ka.Se.Te.Tonight - Kore wa Zombie desu ka OP
Kokoro Musubi - Higurashi no naku koro ni Kai Image Song (this one isn't new but I just discovered it recently..)

K-On songs are nice but I really prefer Angel Beats songs in almost all aspect, especially in term of the lyrics.. (the My Song is just.. oh....)

I really like the first ending "Don't Say "Lazy"" the best.

Also, this will sound pretty silly, but I really want to play the bass now. If I said that K-ON had nothing to do with me wanting to play the bass, I'd be lying.

I was also looking at a Squier (Fender) Jazz Bass... and I didn't realize that is the really similar to the one Mio-chan had (Lefty Fender Jazz Bass). I thought that Mio had the Fender Precision Bass, but it turns out that that was only in the first volume of the manga.

Anyways, I've spent the last night learning about the bass.

ORZ.. I'm too lazy to put that into action
I not sure which song is the best to me but generally I like K-On's EDs more than the OPs

I tend to prefer the ED's over the OP's as well, no idea why ^^.
'Don't Say Lazy' kinda set the bar up high for me, the ED's that followed afterwards were nothing special IMO.

I recall there being a surge in guitar sales after K-ON started airing, especially the same/similar models that the girls use.
And like many others, I also felt a sudden and completely random urge to learn to play the bass, too bad I didn't really have the time to commit to it =P.

Haha, that's interesting - 'theme of SSS' from the Angel Beats! OST is my track of the now at this point. Such energy and passion, and with a good bit of techno energy thrown in for added spice. I did tend to find the mastering for the OST as a whole a bit odd though - very backwards and forwards in soundstage but not much to the side, like it was mixed into an oval. I don't notice it so much now though, so maybe it was my imagination. For vocal tracks 'My Soul, Your Beats!' tends to get a bit jumbled when things get busy, 'Brave Song' is very nice except where the orchestral bit kicks in near the end and 'Ichiban no Takaramono' is basically perfect except for some slight harshness on the vocals. They're all fantastic songs, but I don't often get to talk about J-Pop mastering so I'm blurting a little

Oh, and if you've never watched/played Kanon, the opening and ending songs and a few other tracks were written by Jun Maeda, who came up with the idea for Angel Beats and wrote the music. 'Last regrets' is one of my favourite tracks ever.

I've been waiting for 'theme of SSS' right after watching the PV6 which was few months before the anime itself start airing..
Maeda Jun is not only an excellent song writer but also a legendary story writer to me..

Bonnie Pink, Utada Hikaru, Mass of the Fermenting Dregs, and School Food Punishment are my favorite J-artists so far.

J-Music? B'z, Siam Shade and Ellegarden are the first three bands to come to mind. After that honorable mentions goto Abingdon Boys School, Scandal (a guilty pleasure I admit), Zard, X Japan, Porno Graffitti, Beat Crusaders and Aya Kimaki.

B'z is definately the best out there though. They are such a fantastic duo, and are always toping the charts in Japan. Their current track record is 43 #1 singles (soon to be 44 in about 2 weeks time) and 24 #1 albums. They are also the only Japanese artists who have their hand prints on the Hollywood Rock Walk. Oh right, and guitarist Tak Matsumoto just grabbed a Grammy Award for his work with Larry Carlton. They are definately worth a look.

Is k-on famous on head-fi because it's a music anime?

I watched season 1 before and found it to be an okay anime, boring at times. Though i really feel like getting the k701 just because mio has it...

For J-artist i listen to Kaela Kimura and sometimes Ayumi Hamasaki.
